I'm eager to see how the day turns out for NY'ers. I'll have to call my brother later today. He's a photographer, so he's probably just going to walk around and take pictures of all the pissed off commuters.

I did, I did! Granted it was only from Penn (only 20 blocks away). Nice and chilly today at a cool 22, not including wind chill. I layered up pretty good though; t-shirt, button down, fleece and winter coat.

Damn union wanting 8% increases every year for 3 years, amid their other demands.

You should have titled it " One of the great things unions are doing for our country."

The greenfreaks are probably loving this. Just think of how much gas/electricity is saved by New York's public transit shutting down for one day.

Yeah, my girl lives right next to Penn. Station and had to walk down to the Kate Spade store in SoHo. just to get her check, before she goes home. Boy do I regret making that call this morning. SHE WAS BULL$HIT

For some reason the NY transit strike reminds me of another high profile strike; one about 25 years ago....

On August 3, 1981 almost 13,000 air traffic controllers went on strike after months of negotiations with the federal government. During the contract talks, Robert Poli, president of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Association (PATCO), explained the union's three major demands as a $10,000 across the board raise, a 32-hour workweek (down from 40), and a better retirement package.

Forty-eight hours after the walkout, President Reagan fired the 11,350 ATCs (almost 70% of the workforce) who had not returned to work. In case the message was still unclear, he declared a lifetime ban on the rehiring of the strikers by the FAA.

Which led me to this site. Let's see, fired from your job because you and your pals were greedy SOB's who thought way too much of yourselves, prohibited by law from ever working in the field again, and yet STILL seeking members for your little union...Talk about living in the past.

So here's a big F-U to the fine transit system staff of NYC, sitting at home watching General Hospital and preventing the REAL workers of NY from making a living. And right here at Christmas too...
