I was wondering the same thing. I would love to shorten my shifter on my contour about two inches.

yes many have cut the shifter down but it doesn't make it a true short throw shifter

all you need to do is cut it down and use a die on it or get a non threaded shifter knob for it

As far as I know, noone has tried to cut an weld to make a true short throw. As soon as I learn how to weld this will be a project I want to attempt. Just have to raise the pivot point and you should be set!

In concept it should be an easy enough task. But it sounds a bit too easy...

you guys are forgetting about the reverse lockout..its not the same as on the post98's...it has a cable that runs down the center of the stick...what i did when i shortened mine is take the cable pull it as far up as possible then weld it to the shifter..that way there is no lockout mech...

couldn't you simply shorten the cable? I haven't looked at it yet but that would eliminate the need to simply get rid of the reverse lockout. How much did you shorten yours?

I'm not actually talking about cutting the shifter, I like the knob right where it is(a hand's length from the steering wheel). What I was refering to is actually raising the pivot point up the shaft, nearer the knob (god that sound's obsene!)
