I am needing help with getting a passport, because its just better to have when flying. Ihave never had one and was wondering how quickly one could expect to get one? Where do you go and get your picture taken. I'm so green on this i just want to have some help from some brothas if you know what i mean.
TIA Robert

assume 6 weeks, or you can pay an extra fee to expedite one in 2 weeks. fwiw, I didn't expedite mine, and it came in 2 weeks anyway. Go to your post office, either they will do it there, or they will tell you to go to a larger regional post office. They will also usually take the picture for an extra fee, or you can save a couple bucks and go to any camera shop, or other place that advertises that they take passport photos.

I got my photo done at eckerd, they used a digital and it was pretty quick. The price of a passport is a little rough though.

Mine just showed up in the mail last week, 4 weeks after I submitted the application. You'll need 2 passport photos (some application locations can take the pics too), an original birth certificate, a photo ID like a driver's license, and the application fees (around $80 IIRC but going up very soon so do it now!). They take credit cards which is nice. Get the form online and fill it out completely, take it to the application office (I did mine at the county clerk), sign when they tell you to sign, and pay.

Yupp, print off the forms from above, fill them out, go to any local camera shop or Walgreens and get 2 photos done, go to post office with pictures and paperwork and $85 and your on your way! You will also have to send you birth certificate off with the application, but they will mail it back to you. Of course, this is all assuming you were born in the US or are an american citizen I did the normal wait too and had it in about 2 weeks, if that long. I just couldn't see taking my birth certificate with me on a cruise?

Make sure you have a good way to travel with it. I don't carry mine around with me anymore even though I am abroad. My old passport went through three Italian summers, three German summers, and one Austrian winter and didn't hold up very well. I got to London and they almost didn't let me in because of how bad of shape my passport was in. The photo page had bubbled up and looked like I had faked my own passport. I still don't have a good way to carry it so I don't unless I am leaving Austria.
