My SVT is starting to develop a ticking in the engine. it is getting slowly louder and louder and I have a feeling it is a valve issue or leak in one of the exhaust manifolds. Anyone else experience this.

most duratecs have some sort of "valve" type noise, either the timing chain rolling over, noisy injectors, exhaust or belt tensioner, etc. If it's getting louder however, that is not good. Is it coming from the bottom end? You should be able to discern from a tap and a knock. Knock = bad. Do you change your own oil? Tear apart the filter, see if there's metal shavings inside. Or j ust get it back from the mechanic next time you get your oil changed. Keep us posted.

could it be the throwout bearings in the clutch?

(do i have that right????)

if it doesn't make the noise when the tranny is in neutral, then it could be gear sounds fro mthe MTX. But, the only noise i've ever heard from a bad throwout bearing is a high pitched whine, which I am developing now

How bad is that?? Mine has a slight whine when I'm at WOT

You can hear something other than the engine at WOT!?

I notice it if i'm downshifting to 1st say at a stop light or something...or if i'm coming to a stop and just put it to 1st with the clutch in to get ready for the light to go green. It is my understanding that when the throwout bearing goes bad you will have problems disengaging your clutch.

Been gone for awhile. I took a few 100 mph passes, changed the oil with Amsoil 5w 20 and added 8 oz of miltec to the oil and all my noises are gone. Thanks for the replys. By the way, the tapping was from the top of the motor. I'm thinking a sticky valve spring or something like that. As for my choice of oil, you can't go wrong with Amsoil and the weight, well that is debate. Miltec??? great stuff. It's weapons grade lube.

yeah but, is it worth the money?

Yes, the stuff is really expensive and does work really well. I even have it in the tranny and Power steering pump. But you don't have to try it if you don't want to. It's just something to try that is proven by all the high end Ford motor heads I know.
