Could a converter being plugged cause a car not to start at all?? Could it force oil though the breather tube into the air intake hose?? None of the plugs have oil on them and no oil on the threads of the pluges. It will almost start but it wont and sounds like its struggling. Oh and again it is a 95 Mercury Mystique with the 2.5 v6 5 speed

sounds very similar to my situation but i've got gas on my plugs. I've put about $200 into it already adn still wont start.

One last thing. Fuel pump and fuel preasure regulator. Those and the converter are the only things I can think of. I have a parts car thats helping me lol BUT I gotta find the problem to fix it.

fuel pump is working and the regualtor seems fine to me. my machanic just got back from his honeymoon, so hopefully today or tomorrow he can come over and look at it. he'll probably tell me to drop a match in the cylinder and walk away.

you mean a blocked catalyst ? you can test foor that by removing the lambda sensor and trying to start the car, that would relieve the backpressure. i`ve had a car that refused to start because of that.

Yes that is what I am talking about. How did the car act when you were trying to start it?? Also remove what?? The 02 sensor?? lambda sensor is new to me

yep, over the pond we call the o2 sensor the lambda sensor.
my rover was chugging and coughing and trying to start, but it just wouldnt run, and it had a strange noise to it, hard to describe. kind of a pathetic noise if you know what i mean. suspected a blocckage so removed the sensor which allowed the exhaust gasses tto escape from the hole confirming my suspicions. because the age of the car meant i didnt need the cat by lay i bypassed it with a straight through pipe and the car was transformed.
