Im not having much luck finding out about the gear that melted due to excessive heat. No one is really making any posts on the matter anymore. Is that because something was done about it? I just wanted to know about aquiring a new gear.

Something was done about it.

hamonbagel (IIRC) made a replacement gear made of 5x stronger material, and will be selling them, shortly.

$60 to replace it, vs $300-something for a new assembly.

There is a thread in General (probably two months back or so) by him.

Thanks Ray. That was just the info I needed. $60 does sound much better then purchasing the whole motor assembly. Plus its durability is better too. Thanks for your response man.

*bump*

Sorry bout that guys, but I'm new here so I don't know who to harass. I've seen the moonroof repair description in the main page. It looked like quite a bit of hassle for a non-mechanic like me, but I was considering taking a shot at it (not worth spending $300 for). But I thought to myself, "Self, if you just move the metal gear into the unmelted part of the plastic gear, one more summer and the gear will be completly shot and you'll have to buy the $300 motor anyway." So a new gear sounds genius, and I'd gladly pay the price. Anyone know the status?
