i saw on ebay that they make altezza/euro tailights for the 2000-2005 ford taurus..and the 97-03 ford escort sedan..
to cars that aren't really sporty or get customized really
yet whether you like those tails or not it seem messed up that the svt and regular contours don't have any out there considering there more sporty and more modded then those to cars
jw what everyone might think
Ick, altezza lights are just plain junky looking... And wouldnt fit all so well... I think they are a slightly different size compared to the stock lights.
I'm honestly not sure what started the trend (Don't say Fast and the Furious
it was around before then) and honestly, I'm glad it's not "in" anymore. Well, amongst people with taste, anyways.
I feel it's a genuinely good idea, just designed and done completely the wrong way. Like a spinoff of a really good movie by a different director, sometimes things don't come together as they imagined.
Altezzas, with clear plastic, black housings and angel-eye tails (with reverse lamps mounted in the middle). That'd look hot to me. But I'm sure new cars may already adopt a similar idea
Well, I think you are answering your own question. If you think that clear tail lights = sporty, yet you see Tauri, F-150s, Altimas, etc. getting them, then that might be the reason why we haven't seen them produced for Contours. It's a lot like spoilers in the late 80s that first started showing up on performance cars, yet a decade later you saw them on Camrys, Accords, and Saturns. To automotive supliers and stylists, there is no such thing as "too much". I'm sure that we will continue to see lots of vehicles with clear tail lamps in the coming years. On some cars they look okay: Lexus IS 300 (the original Altezza), Mazda RX-8. On others, they look ridiculous: Lexus LX 330 SUV. They are a styling trend, and I'm sure that twenty years from now we'll look upon them with the same reverence we give to curb feelers, half-mooon stickers on round headlights, and fake convertible roofs.
Sadly, Mitsubishi put Altezza-style tail lamps on my Evo, which I thought looked stupid. It was one of the first things I replaced on the car. Sigh....
the cars these lights are being made for are also still in production...not three years out of production, which is about when the trend started booming.
There's no profit to be made on the contour, the value of the car itself is dramatically decreasing (but you could turn that statement around by saying younger buyers are in the market for affordable cars..ie: contour, which is the demographic altezzas are aimed at, but it's not exactly the car kids are flocking to). The ones I see around here are driven by the elderly, or local trash...not to mention the ones accumulating in the boneyard. Not exactly a target market for altezza...
Searching Aesthetics forum yields several results:
This is about as close to clear taillights you're gonna find on a Contique
I don't think anyone (in this thread) is looking for them...they only wanted different thoughts on why they were never produced for these cars...
i don't care if u like them or want them im just wondering why they weren't made.
and they make them for cars that are from 86 civics etc so just because the contour isn't made anymore means nothing
a escort is gone to yet there still made and a escort sedan is a old bags car no matter how you make it.
im just saying we have a svt contour i thought there would be some type of tail light or headlight combo just for that reason alone
FWIW, the taurus people had to put forth some effort to get their altezza-type tails made. They had petitions and they constantly kept bugging the companies that make them.....I know because I've been haunting their forums for a while.
The guy that was making the modified tails before the forums went down is user: Chris Hightower; I have no idea what happened to those. But if you are decently clever and a have some knowledge/experience with making stuff, then you could build a setup similar to his or my clear tails fairly easily.
