You guys are probably going to laugh at me due to being an automotive engineering/racing tech major, but I've never changed a fuel filter on a ford. I need a how to (step by step) on how to do it without a b/s ford tool. I know the jist of doing it I just don't want to break anything cause god knows ford has so many plastic(cursing) parts. Check the sig for engine details.

Ok, the fuel filter is REAL HARD to change. First you need to reach under the car in front of the passenger side rear tire. Unscrew the clamp. Take off the two plastic clips and replace filter. .... Just look at it. It's too easy.

I would suggest pulling the fuel pump fuse and then starting the car and letting the car die out. Then turn the key back and forth a few times to relieve pressure.
The filter is located near the rear passenger side tire, under where the rear passenger would sit on that side.
Pull the retainer clips out from each side being especially careful if your new filter did not come with new clips to put in. Undo the hose clamp and disconnect each side of the fuel line from the filter simply by pulling them off the filter.
There will be quite a bit of gas in the filter so be prepared.
Secure the new filter with the hose clamp, reattach the fuel lines, and then insert the clips back in. The clips prevent the fuel lines from backing off the filter.
Reinstall the fuel pump fuse and prime the pump 3-4 times by turning the key a few times (not to start). Check for leaks. If none, start car and enjoy.
Hopefully this will make sense to anyone reading it. Its 3:09 AM now and I am a bit tired.

hey guys... I'v eonly changed it twice... one time on each of my cars... and uh. i never spilt any gas.. almost as if the lines hold the gas and the only thing you have to worry about spilling is the gas IN the filter.. which is easy enough to hold level.... no offense or anything.. I just think it's rather easy..... unless of course your damn clamp is rusted!!!

Yeah, it's real easy to spill gas all over yourself. I had more gas come out the filter than the lines.
I usually jack the car up and let it sit overnight so the pressure is lower and the car is cold. I don't know how to drain the fuel pressure and it's easier to just pull the clamps off with out messing with it.

My car caught fire.....
Just kidding. It was very easy. I just wanted to make sure because I had my piece of crap (atx) plastic shifter break apart on me b/c of some front seat activity. Anyways, my car is working great, I'm ready to get the tranny flushed, and my vis mods are bad a$%. I've got a front lebra on the way, and I'm shopping for headrest 7" lcds w/ separate tuners to go with my dash one-also, dvd player/vcr in the center console. Thanks!
