[Not Contour] All right, someone put WRONG FUEL...
#394894 - 09/03/03 07:10 PM

Into my "truck". Well, it's not mine technically, and it's really a minibus, but it's based on the E-350 van body. Any way, this driver must have been too tired... He put in 50 gallons of PREMIUM gas into a diesel truck's tanks.

As you can imagine, after 2 days sitting still, the engine won't run right.

So, what's the thing that should be done? Pump the gas out, then refuel with diesel, and hope the fuel pump and the engine wasn't ruined. Then start it up and trying to burn out that last remaining bits of gasoline in the system? Or is there another trick to it?

Sorry to tell you this but if ANY straight gas gets into that 22 to 1 motor, it will grenade it. The only thing that can be done is to drain the tank, drain all the fuel lines, drain the fuel injector pump and all the fuel injectors and their lines. You need to get all the gas out, all of it. Cars run 8 to 1, or as high as 12 to 1 compression. But diesels run 22 to 1, with no spark plug. So gasoline in the combustion chambers is just like water, except the water explodes the engine because it won't "squish" and the engine hydraulics. But gas is so much more flammable than diesel, which barely will burn even with a match held to it, that the engine will come apart. So every drop needs to get drained out, every one, sorry.

Thanks for the info. We had a mechanic handle it. This driver is getting senile. Due to this we mised a THREE-DAY charter with that bus. Instead of earning money we're LOSING money on the repair. A real LOUSY way to lose a job...

Bummer. Always sad to lose business for no fault of your own. You might consider making arrangements with a dealer or other establishment that will allow you to rent/borrow a vehicle on short notice. An ounce of prevention (option) would have gone far here.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
