TB clean...
#1307279 - 08/27/06 06:11 PM

ok i just got in from autozone.. I was going to buy some STP throttle body cleaner but I remembered I have "Motorcraft spray carburetor tune-up cleaner" here at my house... would this be suitable to clean the wire elements in the TB and IAT?? I saw many posts on this topic but I'm having trouble finding exactly what it calls for.. it does NOT say anything about chlorine on it, but then again they do NOT list the ingredients.. just the ones that will kill you. help??

if I can't use this where can I get the "right stuff"?? radioshack or something??

Radio Shack doesn't have anything you'd want to use to clean engine parts.

well considering it's electronic and not mechanical... it was worth a shot.

CNC non-chlorinated Brak-clean works well. Autozone.
You can also buy products made for cleaning electronic engine sensors as well. 99% alcohol based is needed.

If you are trying to clean the MAF (mass airflow sensor) then you need an cleaner that is safe for electrical parts. You can probably find some at an auto parts store, but Radio Shack probably would have something too.

If you are trying to clean the throttle body, the Ford stuff you have at home will work fine, but it is a little harsh so use it carefully. I use it. I use an old toothbrush and scrub gently. There are cleaners specifically ment for cleaning throttle bodies. Look for one that says it's safe for use on teflon coated throttle bodies.
