Remote Trans Filter
#372993 - 08/09/03 01:25 AM

For those of you with an ATX that would like to be able to add a trans filter that you can easily change, take a look at a B&M Remote Transmission Filter. Part number 80277.

Basically it is added to one of the cooler lines. The B&M system uses a conventional spin on oil filter. I'll be adding one to my wife's new Escape in the next few weeks.

I installed it today. It was a reasonably easy install. It takes an ordinary spin-on engine oil filter. It will add a bit of peace of mind to know that I have a filter that can be easily changed when I do a trans service.

See more and more ads for Lubegard products. Specs look good. Doesn't look snakie. All some of the products do is turn Mercon into Mercon V. I've seen lots of complaints on other boards about transmission shudder. Flushing the system seems to solve the problem. ATX fluid doesn't live as long around here, especially when it gets in the 100s.

Where do you get them? I couldn't find it on the web.

I got mine from PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) but they are available from many sources. Summit has them in several different brands. They all look like they could have been made by the same vendor.

How does the B&M instruction sheet tell you to secure the filter/filter fitting? I would presume that you don't want the thing flopping around. You also would want the fitting to be secured somehow to avoid torquing the hoses when you screw the filter on/off. Are there any provisions for this?

Um...Maybe if you have a link, I could look it up myself & save you some trouble.

Thanks for the info post Big Jim.

I could not find a web site for B&M. The instructions about where to mount the filter were non specific. Basically they said to find a location.

On the Escape, I mounted the filter on the back lower left side of the radiator support near the transmission. There wasn't any room to mount it streight up and down so it ended up nearly horizontal with the filter canister pointing toward the centerline of the car. I don't know if there is room there on a Contour.

My neighbor bought one for his 96 SE at the same time and I'll let you know where he mounts his when he is finished. He has already moved the batter to the trunk and said he might put the trans filter near where the battery once was.

So will this let me run longer between fluid changes?

No it will not.

You will need to do the Valve Body modification/TransGO Shift Kit Jr.
if you wish to reduce the heat created in the CD4E.
Once you've got the heat issue dealt with, then you can
start lengthening the time between oil changes.
