Aren't there underdrive pulleys that fit on the power steering pump and alternator or something? I remember reading that somewhere...that wouldn't affect the dampening of the crank at all. I'm concerned because I hit the redline EVERY DAY, well, when it's running that is.

Let me see if I got this right as a newbie. If I put a UDP on my '99 Countour SE 2.5l and rev it high requently, I can expect reduce engine life? I read in a different post that the UDP only helps get to x rpm quicker and doesn't increase horsepower-maybe only responsiveness. Thoughts?

Yes. In theory that is exactly correct.
Running a UDP will worsen the crank whip and cause more damage to your engine. The higher the rpms you take your engine to, the worse the whip & damage is. Therefore SVT's are likely to suffer more from this phenomenon since they make power well past 6000rpm where the stock Duratec falls on it's face.

4 engine teardowns for new crankshaft/rods in HMS Inc proves the point, lowest miles 38,000, highest 62,000.New crank ,in excess of $600, rods ,over $100 a piece + bearings + full gasket sets+head bolts + any other 'worn bits' + labor + a DMD (better late than never !!)

So if you have the DMD then it's ok to put UDP's on?

Actually, that is a good point/question..how effective is the DMD at controlling "whip" above factory redline. Does it work at 7.5K, at 8K? Judge, Terry, anybody know?

A possible benefit of a UDP besides HP might be reduced frothing of the power steering fluid at high sustained RPMS...

DMD and UDP are the same part. Except the DMD is heavier and reduces vibration. Personally, I think your crazy to run an underdrive pulley. Plus the DMD makes the car feel so much better at higher RPMs. As in mods this is one I highly recommend.

Over 40k on my motor w/ the pulley, no problems.... Yet.
Plan on buying the DMD later this year when I can justify the funds....
Anybody wanna swap a DMD for a Aussie bar? (I'm serious) I'll throw in a gutted MAF for free that you can try. All you'd need is a couple of brackets and new bushings. ($20)
