Where's the best place to buy parts for these cars
#601367 - 04/28/04 04:08 PM

Okay, I have a 1996 Contour LX that has been a little neglected the past couple years, and I'm looking to replace / repair every little imperfection on her.

Where is the best place to buy new or rebuilt OEM parts for cheap?

I'm talking things like: Cup holder assembly, dash garnish that goes around the radio, driver's side rear turn signal, driver's side rear quarter panel, passenger side exterior window garnish, both front window regulators, rear drum brakes... LOL... I'm just not willing to sell this car until I get it back up to par.

And just out of curiosity, when I get the car back into good condition, what do '96 Contours typically go for with 70k miles on them?

Thanks a lot, any help is appreciated.

Your best bet, and what's worked best for me, is to first do some junkyard searching, typically can find a pristine part if you look hard enough. If you still can't find anything, check out Signature Lincoln/Mercury at www.signaturelm.com Go to the parts category, then parts counterexpress. You'll find everything you need for pretty much any FoMoCo car, and at a good discount.

That's exactly what I was hoping to find. Thanks!

Now, I just started working on her... Pulled out the center console (fun times) and found some interesting things...

First, one of the O/D wires was split... After figuring out how exactly to position the shift lever and the E-Brake, I got the center console assembly out... The little trash compartment next to the cigarette lighter is actually BUILT INTO the center console?? Is that a joke??? They built the trash compartment to fall apart, and built it INTO the center console... grrrr

So I've concluded I need the following....

If not an entirely NEW center console, then... A new trash compartment (next to cig lighter), a new plastic piece that the arm rest locks in to, a new set of cup holders, and I need to SOLDER the O/D wires.

Are junkyards open on weekends?

Now, I have one more question...

I need a new radio garnish because some crack-fiend broke into my 'Tour and stole a 2-year old $190 (NEW) CD Player ... Pathetic ... Along with the CD player they took the entire garnish.

Now, I'm lost... There's a wiring harness that comes out of the dash and obviously at one time plugged into the garnish... Did this harness go to the dimmer switch by chance?? Because the gauge cluster doesn't light up....

Hmmm... I think I just nailed it... and I think I'm a retard for not realizing that sooner.

haha adam, nice self solving there! Sometimes it helps to see or hear what you are really thinking. As for the garnish, I would still say the junkyard is your best path. Specially for something as miscellaneous as a radio garnish. Shouldn't be too hard to find once you find a good ford junkyard.

I found all kinds of contour stuff here, this is a great site www.car-part.com Just click on what you need and where you want to find it. Good luck with the car, take before and after pics. Those are always fun to see what you have done in the past. Good luck -B.

Don't quote me on this becuase I'm too lazy to look on kkb or nada but I believe a '96 with that kinda miles sells for around 2K depending on condition so if you're only fixing it to sell I wouldn't put too much into it.
