So... Why did you join?
#1275891 - 07/11/06 04:17 AM

Ive been seeing a couple of posts on occasion with people talking about why they joined CEG, so I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread with people posting their stories, you know like what inspired you to buy a contour? What made you become part of CEG?

Heres mine...

I needed a nice car that was a 4 door, got good gas mileage, was comfertable to ride in but had a fun drive to it at the same time. I wanted one with a stick shift, really badly. I was looking into a 91 Acura Integra 4 door. They wanted 2100 for it with 130K miles. It was quite nice, but I missed out on it. My brother being a ford fan said to me "What about a contour? They seem to be what you are looking for" I didnt know at the time they actually came with stick shifts, but I started looking into it. He pointed out a couple of adds, one was for a 96 mystique LS loaded for 3200, owned by a mechanic, but when we went to look at it it wasnt there. Then there was a 96 contour GL for sale for 1800, cheaper and the same amount of miles. exactly 100669. We pulled up and the second I saw it, I fell in love with it. the styling, the paint was beautiful. I loved the glare the pacific green gave off, and I thought to myself "please to god let it run really good" I walked up to the car, every time I look at a car the first thing I look at is the shifter (for obvious reasons) and my heart filled with joy, it was a stick, had a little more miles then I wanted, but once we started it up I changed my mind, it ran excellent. Went for a quick drive, came back the next day and sealed the deal after another longer test drive. bought it with 100696 on the odo. Never would have changed that decision, that car was the absolute perfect first car. Taught me a lot about budgeting and planning for car repairs. Plus I learned a hell of alot about auto mechanics and how cars worked. Shortly after I got the car, I got bit by the mod bug. I started modding it as money permitted, every extra dollar I had went into parts. I joined CEG the same day I bought the car. I knew my brother was a part of VWvortex when he had his jetta, and I wanted the same kind of information avliable. So I joined CEG to find out stuff about my car... I never knew I would make all of these friends, and go to so many meets and have such a good time because of a website. I love this place, and I will be here till the last day the site runs, which wont be for like... ever.

I saw an SVT and thought it was just a body kit and it flowed amazingly with the lines of the car, so I went online and saw that the SVT Contour was actually a car, not a bodykit that someone threw on. I finally realized then, that the car i had fallen in love with when i first saw one in 98 was actually real. Too bad i bought an SE. LOL. I joined because i love my SE anyways and wanted to learn more about it and the SVT. I have met a great group of friends on here and i was so hooked on the SVT that once i paid off my SE, I went right out and got an SVT. My dreams had finally come true...I always wanted an SVT vehicle and i got the car adored the last few years. This site is the best. Not many other vehicles can boast an enthusiast group for their car. This site was and continues to be an amazing resource

My brother hmouta got a 95GL when they came out. Then he got the SVT a few years ago. After seeing that, I started trolling the boards and getting really into it. Finally last summer I bought my SE. I kind of wish I got an SVT but for the $2k or so I saved, it helped my parents pay for my last year of school. I figured once I got a job, I could mod the hell out of my car or buy an SVT myself. I've got my eye out for that T-Red...

I get a little flack for being into driving/modding "just a contour" but I drive all my buddy's cars and none of them come close to driving like mine. All their cars leave me feeling disconnected from the vehicle so I'm glad on my choice. Plus an svt/svt clone(my goal) is a real headturner since no one knows what it is.

i have been on this site since january 11, 1999 and all i can say is that it has been one rewarding discovery. way back in january of 1999 i bought my 95 se mtx off of a car lot that was owned by a friend of the family. there were other great cars that i could have had my pick of.

the lot included a mustang gt, a 3000gt, a camero z28, and a host of other go fast testosterone filled autos. a light layer of newly fallen snow covering the lot. the cars were lined up 20 across. the contour was the last in line. i slowly walked by each car with the voice of the dealer ringing off how cool each car was in my ear. i said nothing. i just slowly meandered with the flakes of snow crackling under my feet. when something caught my eye i paused.

i turned to the dealer and said, "i want to test drive this car." my finger purposely pointing in the direction of a little red four door. "that is not a car for you," said the dealer, which by now had a nose as red as the car. i recoiled yet kept my feet in place, " i want to test drive this one." my eyes now fixed on the side badge which read, 24V DOHC. he agreed and went and got the keys. he returned with the keys to the mustang, and dropped them in my anxious hand. when i saw what he had done i shook my head in disapproval. "oh ok, here are the keys, but it is just a contour.",the dealer said hurridly. my eyes lit up as i saw the gleem from the overhead lights flash off of the shiny silver key as it fell into my awaiting palm. i unlocked the car and jumped in.

the car received me with a warm hug from the tremendous side bolsters. they were like two powerful arms assuring me that the car would care for me as much as i would care for it. i started the engine. all six cyliders firing on time in a powerful symphony pounded on my chest. it ran with a confidence that was refined, yet forcefull, unlike the mouth breathing muscle cars it shared a home with. i drove it off the lot.

by now the sun had started to set over the western horizon. the sky on fire with orange, yellow and red as if someone had used a brush to paint it, and the newly fallen snow reflecting the colors trying to imitate the heavens beauty. it was a perfect backdrop. i drove the contour se with a spirit of a young boxer. it weeved and ducked, jabbed and hooked. the cars footwork was amazing. i drove the car to a open lot and stopped. i got out and walked around it. the sky refecting off of the electric red was truely a site to behold. i drove the car back to its place amongst the now humbled two door beasts and parked it. i didnt shut it off.

i walked into the dealer and bought it. not pausing one instance for any thought other than bringing this car home. i drove it home that night. the rest is not history rather it is the future. i got on computer and found www.contour.org that night and have not missed a day yet. even when out of the states in various third world countries, i always find my home here. i am amongst the most friendly, inviting, warm people i have ever met, and not met. sure there are disagreements here, but that is healthy for any relasionship. i welcome different ideas and different feelings. i welcome critisism and complements. we are a small group of a vast community of auto owners. what seperates us from the masses? we are our cars. we are enthusiasts. we are contour enthusiasts. ford put our cars to rest 6 years ago, but they will not, and cannot make us rest. we are the future of contouring. we will not let the contour die. thank you for your time. thank you for your story because we all have one. thank you for your ideas. thank you for your thoughts.

wow. Way cool mikey, that story had me on the edge of my seat and leaning over the computer desk while I read it. Very cool, although I wish my tour would have had that side badge that read "24v DOHC" but oh well, I loved my little zetec.

my buddy, a guy that always had older fords, 66 stang, 67 country squire, a 460ci powered 79 bronco, etc.
told me one day he bought a new car, and SVT contour. i couldnt stop laughing.
then about 6 months later i drove it.
right then i knew i had to have it, and about a month later i owned it.

#1275955 (Re: AliasJerk™) 07/11/06 11:52 AM

lets see, there is some lead up to this ...

its 96 and my father is looking to replace his tempo, so we look around and learn that the Contour replaced the Tempo. Father was fine with something like a tempo because no matter what happened to the ones we had we could always get it home. Anyway they found a mercury dealer with some 96's, mostly base models but they had this one 95 SE. It was almost a no brainer, get a 95 with 9k on it that is near fully loaded or get a 96 with less options and about the same cost. Anyway the test drive was what did it, I wasn't there but I was told my father scared the sales man when he took off in the car. I really believe that it was perfect from the start. I think it was the car was a good compromise between the Mustang that he had/still has and the Capri RS that he had since new.

Well since then it had now become time for me to start driving around 98, I of course ended up with a Tempo. In 2k my brother was about to start driving and he needed a car and I was becoming very unhappy with the Tempo I had. So it was off to look for a car. I surprised my parents and was actually calling dealers about some cars, normally I don't do things like that, so they knew I was serious about getting another car. Of course I had learned to drive on my fathers 95 SE and of course wanted a car just like his, I drive alot like him also. So I ended up finding a Mystique in an Auto Trader and showed it to my parents. I have just recently come to learn that for my parents that was one of the best car buying experiences that they had. They went one evening to look at the car and then later when back to test drive it, had great customer service and then they purchased that car for me without my knowledge. One Friday night as I come home from Boy Scouts my parents are not there, I had a stray thought, where they out getting me a new car, and the next morning, nothing, oh well. Well later that day I am sitting in the basement and we hear this car horn, and we just sit there, my mother tells us to go outside and there is my father with the Mystique, it had been in the neighbors garage to hide it. It was perfect, a car like my fathers but the 4 cyd. engine like he felt a new driver should have.

This then started the down hill run. I believe that it was in 02 when my parents where looking again for another car, and the Contour was on the top of the list. They looked at some SVTs to replace my fathers car but with no luck finding anything, still cost more then what they where looking to spend. The search goes on and at the same dealer they got the 95 at they found a 99 that they picked up and it became my mothers car, and later my brothers car.

As for my 99 it was in the bargain news. Parents wanted me to get a new car because of the miles on mine. The car sat for a month and we ended up looking at it and decided to purchase it. The mods began with a DMD and a Steeda Tri-ax shifter and the rest is history.

Ah the point, why am I on CEG? I like others was searching for Contour information, iirc there was a problem we where looking to solve so I hopped on the internet to see if I could find anything. I found the Cold Air message board and finally found the link to the forum.

I had also seen a SVT in 98 or so at Lime Rock but never really realized what it was until later, the sound of the car was great.

To this day my father and I still have our 95's. Yes there have been some issues here and there, a radiator and a water pump, etc but they have been great cars, and my Mystique has been the best deal ever, I have more then gotten the moneys worth out of that car, but I still love to drive it, sometime even more then my Contour

wow mikey that was quite in-depth. as hard to follow that as it is, ill do what i can...

ive had my share of mutt cars..87 supra with infinite miles and double blown-headgaskets. then a teal grand prix that i sold for more than i paid a year earlier.

i think i saw my first sil-frost svt somewhere around 2000 and couldnt keep my eyes off it. i loved the look of mk4 supras without the spoiler and oddly enough thats exactly what it reminded me of. almost forgot about it for a while until i saw a t-red on the road while looking for a replacement for my grand prix(around 2005) my funds only allowed me to spend $6000 max so i was in the market for newer 240's, maximas, and maybe even a cheap sc400.. i put the svt at the top of my list and with some patience i found a deal within 15 miles.

i couldnt test drive it because i couldnt drive stick but the tone it gave off sold me (my mom drove it) put it on 'layaway' that day and came to pick it up a the next weekend off from school. learned to drive it the next morning with my mom teaching me for about an hour. then drove it alone up to new york for a rball tournament.
been in love ever since cant keep my eyes off it and drive it whenever i get the chance
oh yeah, i found ceg googling i think. great, generous, helpful group of people

husband bought an SVT, and found the site within days of his purchase after googling "contour".
He wouldn't stop talking about the site, so I finally joined when I was in the market for my own car.
Planned on getting an SVT Cougar, until they axed it. Was in love with the looks of the Cougar, so I decided against going SVT Contour. I got a C2 instead, but still stuck around the site.
Bought the GL in 2002 off of baco99.

My stoy of how I came accross this automotive platform starts with the death of its predicessor.

I used to own a Tempo 2 Door with an auto trans, but one day I screwed up on the freeway and ended up going backwards into the center divider at 70 mph, completly totaling the car. Luckily crashing backwards made it the most comfy crash you could have. I had no injuries neither did my friend who side took the brunt of the damage.

A few days later I needed a new car and I needed one soon. It had to be cheap and reliable (failed on this one),those were the only two stipulations. The first car I and my Father came accross was a Chevy Mystique, in the local classifieds. Obviously miss claissifyed the mistake gave me an advantage on finding the car first as all others looking looking for a mercury would skip over the Chevy section.

I called the owner and talked to him about the condition of the vehcial, and by the way he described it was near perfect.

Latter on in the day my family and I drove over to take a look. It was a clean 99 Mercury Mystique with 34,000 miles on the clock with a asking price of 4,400. The price seemd fair and we decided to take a test drive. While the engine performance wasn't stunning it was fater then my tempo was. And given that the engine was running well I decided this car would have to do. Drove back to the owner blah blah blah and ended up picking it up for $4K.

I learned to enjoy the car later on, initailly it was very boring amfm casset 14 inch steelies and a brown interior. Plane and boring. Then I did the best upgrade I have ever done on a car. A set of 15 x 6.5 rage breaker rims, and some warrior tires. Even though the tires weren't the sporties the added with and the shorrter sidewall really woke up the cars handling. It was a blast to drive fast threw 90 degree turns and moutain roads. It really put a smile on my face.

Unfortuantly about a year later I got a CEL that would never go away, and it went down hill from there, over heating auto trans wouldn't start in the cold, horrible idle. I got sick of the problems.

But not sick enough to jump platforms. For my next car I decided to remedy all the past problems. Slow rough unreliable zetec was replaced with a 2.5 duratec. Overheating Auto with a 5 speed. Lame brown cloth interior Midnight Blue leather. Hell everything in my new SVT contour is an upgrade over the Mystique. Its truly an awsome car, and I hope to have it for some time to come.

I joined CEG to try to find a way to fix my ailing Mystique but have enjoyed other aspects of this forum quite a bit lately. Digitpress.com is my fav forum but this one is quickly catching up.

Ok thats more then enough

About 7 years ago I saw a CAR for sale in my home town. My parents and I were out to go something to eat and we passed this silver car for sale on the side of the road. I demanded that we turn around and go look at it, so we did. When I got out, I was unaware of what exactly it was but was in total awe! It was a 99 SVT Contour with tint, 17" rims, lowered and with an exhaust. I immediately fell in love with these cars. Now at this time I knew there was absolutely no way I'd afford that car being very young and still in high school. So I walked away from it and said to my father, "I will own an SVT contour one day, mark my words." 5 or so years later I graduate high school and land a pretty decent job. I realized that my 1990 Camaro RS just wouldn't cut it anymore for the 50+ mile round trip to work everyday. So I began shopping and immediately looking for SVT's. Despite the hard road picking one out, I finally found the right one. I met my Dad at work and the salesmen drove it out for the test drive. After the test drive we came back agreed on a price and I picked it up later that week.

I remember seeing another SVT at a local shop and upon checking it out it had a big bubbly www . contour . org in blue on the back bumper. I didnt really think much of it becuase I was totally unaware of the whole forum/ online carr communities. Later, I randomly see a CEG'er named (aliasjerk) as I'm passing through his home town. We talk very breifly and he says, "hey, get on contour.org." I've been a fuggin addict ever since!!!

Back in 2000, I graduated High School. Instead of jumping into college, I landed a pretty good drafting job, but it was a ~40 minute drive from home. I was driving my 93 Taurus SHO that had a bunch of miles, and wasn't proving to be the most reliable car in the world.
I didn't have any credit, coming out of High School with no credit cards or loans. I finally talked my Grandpa into co-signing a loan for me, and he was open to the idea of me buying what I wanted. At the time, what I had my eyes on, were LS1 Trans Am WS6's. I told him I found the one I wanted(Peuter, 18" Y2K Vette wheels all around, Borla exhaust, B&M shifter. Drove 3 hours with my girlfriend at the time, to test drive the car. It was perfect.
On the way home, I call my Grandpa to let him know I found the car I want to buy. Evidently, he had a change of heart, and didn't want me getting into something RWD, and with that much power. So I was back at the starting blocks. I looked through Auto & RV's, trying to get an idea of what I wanted. Saw a used CSVT for sale, and thought I'd look around locally for one. I was going to look for a used one, drive it for a while, and then buy the WS6 down the road. Went to the local Ford dealership, and there sat, a brand new black CSVT. It was the only color I was interested in.
So the next day, I head up there with my Mom and Brother. We test drive the car, and right then, I knew it had to be mine. It had 260 miles on the car, and they wanted $19,999.00 which was their "no-haggle price." So I traded in the SHO, and drove off in the SVT that next day.
So, since August 21, or 2000 I haven't been able to part with this car. It's paid off, it's reliable, and flat out fun to drive. Everytime I do something to it, whether it be an upgrade, or just something maintenance related, it feels like a brand new car again. I still love walking out to my garage, after almost 6 years of ownership, and getting into my baby.

Bought my black SE in Aug 98. A month after I bought it the coolant light came on. Took it to the dealer and they said it was faulty wiring. Was replaced and a week later the light was back on. I'm like F this I'll fix it myself and searched the web and found contour.org. Bought a KKM intake...then Dynomax muffler... and then a....

Got the first Contour on an Ebay auction. CS said they were reasonably reliable and the car was CHEAP.

On the way home, the CEL came on. A week later I started searching for info on how to get that %@*&%)^ light to turn off and found CEG.

Never looked back. Great site Lance & great resource CEG! Thanks millions!

you guys can thank newman for introducing my reign of terror here on CEG. long before i was even considering owning one, i was prowling the audio, common interests, and EGL forums (especially when he would send me a link to a thread that was particularly humorous). when the time came to get a different car, i had a few different options... but i had always liked the CSVT. so where would the best place to look for a modified, well taken care of CSVT be? why here of course!

so i officially joined and perused the classifieds until i came across a car i liked, and have been pissing people off ever since.

Ever since Ford came out with the Contour, I wanted one. Long story short, in 2002 a lady ran a stop sign and totalled my '88 Tbird. She did me a favor as it had 256,000 miles on it and I was just waiting for the tranny to go out. I decided I had to have a Contour as her insurance gave me $2200 for that old Tbird (I kept it lookin' good). Found my '99, figured I wouldn't get it for what I could afford.....but did! Shortly after, I, like others, Googled Ford Contour and found this site. Since I always do the majority of the maintenance on my cars, I joined her because it seemed like a great site with loads of good information about these cars. It was and still is. I've learned a lot here.

Ive owned 3 fords so far, 1 a 87 thunderbird turbo crap, a friggin lemon with no flavor, twas my 1st car I was 16 and saved up plopped all my 4k CASH on it. Before Greddy, HKS and all that [censored] was popular back in 1996 (or slightly affordable) Took a [censored] on me after 2 years and I sold it for 1,000. Second car was a white state patrol notchback mustang 5.0. I got my licence suspended for owning that bad boy, I had it painted Land Rover Emerald Green with lil 13" rims that would smoke tires like none other. Lil mexican thing with pokin rims, that stang was HOT before the term "mexican" applied. Blew the head gaskets on that one lol. Ahh what a joy that was with chopped off mufflers. I said to my self, NEVER FORD EVER AGAIN! NO FORDS UGGGGH.....then I was flicking issue after issue of auto traders, I could become a used car salesman after the knowlege I gained after purchasing 11 copys 2 months of head shaking "thats not worth it" horror,Honda's Toyota supra's, Trucks with crazy ridiculous prices. oh then....the dream from 1995 came true, I was a junior in high school when I seen pics of this CSVT. Man, if I could only have this car. This car was hot before ground effects, body kits, big rice spoilers..... STOCK! i seen it and couldnt pass it up, 4 g's later I felt I was at home. Till the lil [censored] needed a clutch HOLY [censored] ARE YOU FOR REAL! I still hate fords, but I still drive one. A summer hasnt passed when on a given day I didnt get 2 offers for it! Thanks for letting me bore you. The question still stands, Is this Contour gonna go up in price or depreciate, only time will tell. The Blue interior makes me wanna grab Armor All every day I have an extra minute. I love this car.

I joined because, well, first of all when I saw this website I thought to myself "what in the hell, there are Contour fans out there, I thought these cars were forgotten about", but, I was wrong indeed, and now I know there are other addicts out there and this website feels like home in the respect that others take care of their contours just as well as I do.

I had my csvt for about three years prior to finding this site. It's kind of funny, my friend who is a die hard GM fan and pretty much despises ford told me about the site. I joined up after reading a bunch of repair and tech stuff. This site is so packed with info it's been a valuable tool for the contour. I was using a haynes manual, but this site is better.

#1276198 (Re: Bike2112) 07/11/06 04:57 PM

Back in '98 I was driving a '92 Mitsubishi Galant. I had loved the way these cars looked since high school. When the tranny in my full size Chevy truck cratered, I snapped up a pristine Dk Green Galant. Peppy 16v engine, ATX. I loved the car dearly. Fast forward to early '98. Driving home from work one morning in Kansas City I attempt to accelerate up a hill on the Interstate .... and nothing. Engine revs, but the car is coasting. I manage to coast off the highway safely, and get the car towed to a transmission shop. $1200 later ($900 for a USED tranny (rebuilt was going to cost $2500!!!), $300 for the install) and I'm back on the road. Sadly, just a few months later the replacement transmission begins to slip. CRAP! Three ATXs in a row and I'd had it!

Passing a Ford dealer in Raytown on the way to work I spotted an F-150 on the used lot. It was brand new, but was a hail-damaged purchase, hence it's presence on the used lot. I missed having a truck, and that's really the main reason I'd stopped to look at an F-150. It should be mentioned at this point that I come from a GM family, and I had hated Fords with the white-hot heat of a thousand burning suns. Well, the F-150 had a contract being written on it, so it was out. I remembered hearing that the Contour could be had w/ a V6 and a MTX (if I was getting a car I wanted a V6, and by this time a MTX was a requirement regardless of the vehicle). The only reason I considered looking at the 'Tour (besides the engine/tranny combo) was the facelift for '98. At the time I didn't really care for the look of the '95-'97s. On a lark I asked the salesman if they had any V6/MTX 'Tours. He told me they had only one. It was a Silver Frost '98 SE. The '99s were out by this time (September) so there was a substantial discount on the '98s. It stickered at almost 20k, but w/ year-end discounts was down to 15k. I test drove the car and INSTANTLY fell in love with it. I bought it that same day and had it home by early afternoon and I've loved it every single day since. Just last week I had my first CEL, so it's been reliable as hell.

Now, as far as contour.org... a year or so later I was at the Kansas City car show. I spotted a T-red SVT in the Ford display. While drooling over the car, a man next to me asked if I had a Contour. After replying in the affirmative, he told me about contour.org. I trolled for a bit, and I think I registered way back then but lost track of my log-in as I didn't visit the boards much. I re-upped in 2003 and since the car was finally paid for and now out of warranty I finally allowed the mod bug to bite. Now, I'm on here every day and posting away!

#1276201 (Re: AliasJerk™) 07/11/06 04:57 PM

A long time ago (in this galaxy, though) my brother worked at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership with livinsvt. They started hanging out once in a while, and when he came by my house in his silver SVT I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. He finally took me for a ride in it and I loved it. He was the one who also introduced me to contour.org.

Something happened to my mom's Taurus and we had to get a rental car for a week or so, and it turned out to be a 1999 Contour V6 ATX. I started driving the thing all of the time and kept falling in love with Contours. After joining the site and bugging my parents to let me buy one for about a year we finally started looking for a vehicle to replace my first car, a 1988 Ford Bronco II . We were actually looking for a 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra primarily, and we even told a guy we'd give him a deposit on one we were looking at (in person) and he declined and said someone else wanted it right before us. If it wasn't for that, and the rental car, I probably would've ended up with a Cobra or Focus SVT. We continued looking until I found my silver SVT in Auburn Hills, MI. It had some scratches on the drivers side rear quarter panel, but the price was right, everything worked, and it drove well. We ended up buying it.

I owned it for just over 4 years, through a deer accident, a blown engine, and finally a D-Bag (yes, with a capital D) who totalled it by running a red light. Even though I will probably not buy another CDW-27 for my next car, I will still call this site my home and probably be on here daily . I hate to say it, but Common Interests is pretty much my source of news, jokes, and random entertainment

I bought my car in NOV 01 Cause the tarus I had bit the dust. We broke a motor mount again and had the tires out of alighment and figured with the money that we have put in to it would be better to trade it in. We spent 4 days straight going to diff dearlers. Nobody would finance me cause I was getting out of the Marines in 9 months and had no garranted job. We went to a dealership in Kearney Mesa and told them what was going and we wanted to get approved before we even looked at a car. I had an appt some where else that day. They called us back and said that we got approved and they had 7 cars inour price range all we had to do was pick the one that we wanted. They had 5 Corollas and 1 Red camry and the contour. I don't do red. We picked the Contour. The only site I was able to find was SHOSHOP.com and they were usually not to much Help. I was looking at SVT's on EBay and found a black one and sent him a message and asked him where he purchased his parts and he game me Contour.org. Never left since.

I found this forum because my battery was low, and my Air Bag light flashed, and I google searched Air Bag trouble codes, and CEG was result 1, Air bag code 12 was what I had, and I was impressed, and clicked on forums, signed up, and began posting every now and then. For the past five years I had been driving a 1987 Lesabre T-type. For those of you who don't know it (most don't) the Lesabre T-type was made for 3 years from 87-89. It was meant to replace the Grand National. But the prototypes they built had a problem hooking up the turbo to the fwd (the axles kept snaping). So Buick decided to give the car a handling package instead. This made the car one of the best handling cars made in the late 80's. The only GM that handled better was the Vette. The 3.8v6 was a powful engine, so much so that GM uses it in many of there cars to this day. Unlike the ford 3.8, the Buick one is a great engine. Good hp and tons of torque. Enough power that I could keep up with and beat most cars of the same generation (i.e. Camaros and Mustangs from the 80's) unless, of course, they had any work done on them. I loved this car like no other. Well, early this year I was coming back from a gig in NYC (I'm a musician) and the car started to overheat. The end result was either a blown head gasket or crack in the block or heads. Because of the age of the car and the fact that it needed other cosmetic work, I knew it was time to get a new one. Now even though I love the old T, It was becoming more and more difficult to get parts. The only place to go was the website I belonged to www.lesabreT.com or a salvage yard. I decided to look for a new car that I could love. While browsing ebay I came across the Contour. The cars looked to be in my price range with good gas milage and all that. While doing research I found CEG. After reading a few of the post I noticed alot of similarities between the lesabre T-type and the contour svt(i.e.good performance but underated). As well as the similarities of the owners and what they wanted out of a car. I decided that I had to get a Contour. After bidding, and losing out, on a few SVT's, I thought I was out of luck. Then I came across someone selling a regular v6 fully loaded in the local paper. When I went to look at the car it was better than I had expected. It was Black with a sunrood and alloy wheels. The girl was asking 1800, I offered 1700. I drove it home that day! That was over three months ago, and I love the car more and more every day!

very good story, although I need to disagree about the GM 3.8. Back in the late 80's it was an amaizing engine, ill hand GM that, but its getting so old and they keep putting the same engine in their new cars. I mean, my mom's 05' grand prix GT has the SAME engine that her 93 buick Regal had, the only real difference is that hers is a Series 3 which has some computer differences which allowed a slight increase in horsepower. Its still based off pushrod technology. I think its time for GM to move up and design a more technilogically advanced V6 for their midsized cars.

I used to have a stratus and belonged to a stratus board after searching google for related stuff. The car was beginning to die, and I realized how much I hated the car. That worldtour guy was on that forum, and pointed me in this direction (research ensued) and I bought an svt.

And I need to disagree back. Old technology does not equate to bad technology. Yes, my old-fogey parents have a 2002 white Buick LeSabre w/ a series 3 3800. Here we have a larger engine than in my 'tour coupled to an ATX in a car that probably weighs half a ton more than mine. Not only is it as quick, if not quicker than mine, it's nearly silent and gets 32 mpg on the highway compared to my 27. If there was a way to shoe-horn one of those into a 'tour, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Even with the ATX.

Real easy, I wanted a stick shift, and the only thing I could find (and afford) was a 97 SE Zetec. It got me started cause I really liked the style of the body plus it was a 4 door. I googled to find CEG and the rest is history.

I joined because I bought a contour and while I was looking info on her...I came achross this forum.

Forums like this one & mymonte.com are great, cause U get just about any info U need on your car, plus U can learn how to both Mod/Fix things yourself...ranther than going to a shop.

I love this place, and I'll always will be here

I was destined to own a Contour. Even had a journal entry from 8th grade stating how I wanted one (even when at the time I barely knew anything about them, and promptly forgot when I was actually looking for cars).

Went car shopping with Dad shortly after I got my licence. Something with four doors and a floor-shifter (hate column shifters!) automatic. Found a few, including a promising '97 Altima from Riverside Mitsubishi (any NE-CEGer can tell you about this place and why I'm VERY GLAD I didn't buy a car from them - article!!!!!!) but the price was too high. Took a look at a '00 Contour SE and liked it but the salesman from this Ford dealership was being rather rude to me. Found the '98 loaded SE at another Ford dealership and loved it - better price, better salesman, better car. Parents brought it home March 9, 2001. I registered on CEG shortly after my mom discovered the website, and asked the community a few newbie questions about my car. I had been a member of some e-mail lists for several years, but this was the first bulletin-board forum I'd ever registered on. First posts were something about the fuel pump and the crappy headlights - they're still in the Archives actually.
