3L FAQ thread. Big dogs chime in. Newbies READ!!!!
#740593 - 10/15/04 02:28 PM

Starting a post to eventually sticky at the top of this forum. Covered in this post will need to be: Proven combinations, terms used specifically in this forum, best prices, links to more information on the net to other FAQ, etc. I don't want any more newbies posting the same old junk and search nazi's chiming in only to get threads locked. Point them here and let their thread die a natural death.

Newbies: Your post had better start off with something like "I searched and read the FAQ post, but I still need some information..." if you are expecting to get any sort of heartfelt response.

Now, to start it off, I'll be SEARCHING to find some answers to common questions, and then posting the links back in this thread. Good day.

Haha, beat you to it.

Also, I wanted to mention that Rick's site, buckshotmotorsportsdotcalm also contains most of my old FAQ, albeit somewhat dated.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can get all of your rod/main bearings from Nicholas at DuratecPerformance.com.

For full 01+ swap fuel rail, TB bracket & possibly IAC relocated (some say they don't have hood issues). Hard vac lines also need to be fabed together. I don't have a pic right now of that.

Brazed fuel rail.

3L TB bracket matted/brazed with SVT bracket and SVT TB cable has to be used.

All this work was performed my Terry Haines.

If you want to use the 3L oil pan it needs to be modified for 2 tranny points. Otherwise use the 2.5 oil pan and P/U tube. And DO NOT grind off or bend up the support for the P/U tube. I don't have the part # for the correct P/U to be used so the support is retained.

Pulse wheel needs to be changed to 2.5 along with 2.5 timing cover.

And if you don't want to do it that way then your other option is a hybrid. Take all 2.5 components and swap them onto a 3L block. Simple as that right?

Here's the links I've gathered during my Hybrid install:

Size up an air filter that is large enough for a 3L's demands
Choosing a oil for your new block
Hybrid How-To over at NECO
Different ways to "fill the holes" when going the Hybrid route
Timing a Hybrid (2.5L heads w/ 3L block) and info on the TSB released for mismarked timing chains
Upgrading your pre-98 to SVT injectors
Get a custom tuned chip from ADC (aka StreetFlight)
Break-in your new block right!
