Tail light paint?

Ok i would like to paint my plastic piece between the blinkers on the rear silver. I've tried to take just the red reflector off but can't seem to get it off. So do i have to take off the whole back piece that it is connected to and just tape the rest off?
And what kind of paint would you recommend? I am no good at finding this stuff out so i ask the only people i trust!

the whole piece comes off, there is no way to seperate the reflector. You will have to tape off the chrome on the top of the reflector and then the bottom where the reverse lights and license plate frame are will need to be taped off. Some people use the mystique rear reflector and fill in where the mercury logo is. It looks a little smoother and does not have the chrome trim above the reflector.

I'm not sure if the silver color matches, but I know a bunch of people use Krylon Fusion spray paint.
