I would like to run 17x7 inch wheels with 42mm offset 225/45/17 tires on the track because there are so many choices and the extra 10mm of tire footprint is useful. However for the road I like the stock 16" E1 wheels with stock 215/50/15 rubber.

The questions:

Is a wheel alignment necessary each time I want to change from the 16" to the 17" wheel and tire setup?

Do the autocross an track drivers in the group use the same diameter wheel for road and track (if your car is used on both road and track)?

If you are planning to run in stock class the 17's are not legal.

I ran the stock E1's for track wheels with 17's on the street. I never had the car realigned and there is no need if you are only changing wheels.

I ran 225/50/16 BFG and Khumo R comp tires on the stock rims with no issue.

I would rather run the 16's. They are usually going to be lighter and have a better gear ratio than 17's which is advantagous for AutoX.
