Non-SVT Contours

99 SE into something more

99 SE into something more

I got a great deal on a 99 SE... Paid 1500 for it with 100,000 miles. It came with an aftermarket power roof, and the nice leather seats. I have since done almost every asthetic mod to it, put the SVT body kit on it, got headers, y pipe, trubendz Magnaflow, SVT UIM and LIM / throttlebody/ MAF / fuel rail / injectors/ poly motor bushing / CAI / Under pulley / The BAT sport kit and some free 16" focus five stars with 225's. All I need now is the SVT cams / gears / timing chains and it might as well be an SVT... I'll call it SVT # whatever was the last number produced in 99 +1. I love my car and I will keep it for a long time... all the way up until 325i day!

The zetec gets better gas mileage than the escort.

But I want to sell them both, bank a little bit of money and buy a really cheap beater like a festiva or some junk.

WOW!!! good luck with you finding a newused/junker car. Look at geo metros I heard they were great on gas.

There was something "different" about the 96GL Zetec/ATX... it handled pretty good, suspension was soft, quiet...

Then I moved on to the SVT... loud, harsh, doesn't have the sporty character anymore, instead having a performance car feeling (i.e. not very comfortable to drive).

Now the Sentra I have isn't any better... it's quiet, but it's harsh and it's limits are hard to judge. Plus the interior is CRAP except for the steering wheel. Uncomfortable driver's seat (no lumbar), hard plastic everywhere... only padding is <1mm thick on the door panels (but not any armrest). Just shows how cheap the materials are.

Would I go back to a non-SVT Contour, probly not... I like going fast.

Something is wrong with your SVT. Mine isn't loud or harsh and it's lowered and has aftermarket wheels. It's just right.
Drive something like a mazdaspeed miata with linear rate springs. Now that could be uncomfortable to drive and really has a performance car feel.

And I might buy an astro van a coworker has. Not great on gas, but I just drive to and from work for the most part with my daily driver and that's just right down the street. Plus I'd have some fun in a van.

Some people think I'm weird for being in love with my pre-98 zetec, at least I'm not the only one. I plan to run it till it dies too, then CSVT, here I come.

Would you believe I traded an '84 325e, still in practically showroom condition, although with 253,000 miles, for a new '99 Mystique LS? Closest thing I could find to BMW 325 amenities for half the price. Although you DO get what you pay for! So far, with almost 210,000 miles, service costs have been cheaper with the Merc, but with the loss in status, I still wonder if I wouldn't have been happier with a late model used Bimmer for the same money.

I can tell you there's nothing wrong with it! It's just got some STIFF ass suspension!

Konis+GC+40 series tires = super harsh ride

When I drive it for long periods, I never notice it... till I get in a car with factory suspension. Nice and soft... but doesn't handle worth a crap!

Now, the loud part, yes, it's got headers, no cats, 3" exhaust, and no mufflers (at the moment).
