MAking a new armrest

Hi all. Trying to figure out if I can make a bigger/better armrest for my 98.5 'stique. Few questions?

1) how do I get the old one off? I can unzip it, but I don't know how to get it off of the driver's seat.
2) Anyone else try to make one (As in NOT by swapping in a <98 center console)?

i couldnt figure it out either.i just hacked it of with a sawzall....i think its much more comfortable with out it...mine was broken when i got the car.....plus my seat covers wouldnt go over the seats....
