I have a 98 Contour SVT. It was making this rubbing noise like it was a bearing in the trans or pilot bearing. Would make the noise from 2-2500 rpm. Turned out it was the idle air control valve going bad and air was getting past the diaphram. If you got a a similar issue check it out.
