Okay, poking around in my 98 SE Zetec ATX looking for broken wires and I managed to bungle up the black plastic indicator strip on the ATX shifter that shows what gear you are in. Of course it broke at the thinnest points directly across the shift lever holes. Anybody fixed or replaced this identical item and how? recommendations? Or better yet, part numbers and source for a new strip? There are no junkyards or U-pull-its in my area. Help!

All I can say is good luck. Tried to replace my GF's once. Didn't work too well. Instead I took it partially apart and removed the front half of the strip. Mine just broke last week actually. The whole assembly is plastic-welded together, so you have to break the welds apart and then weld it back together. Not a fun task, but if you're willing to do it, go for it.
