static sound

I have recently installed XM and it gets its power from the cigarette lighter but it has a really bad static/fuzzy noise. I've also noticed this when I have my iPod playing through the head unit and it's charging at the same time. Any ideas on what to do??

It is obvious that there is some sort of radio interference going on. You can go by the process of elimination. First, if you can, try using another power source, if it goes away, you know, it has something to do with the cigar lighter power. Also check where the XM wiring runs, just in case it is near some other "high" voltage wire.

Okay, well, the iPod sounds crystal clear when not charging and I don't have any other power source for the XM, unless you guys know of some...

Why not just hardwire the XM receiver into the car instead of going through the lighter?
