Radar Detectors

I got a Cobra model for $60.. Picks up lazer, radar, radar detector-detectors, and some kind of safety signal for ambulances, fire trucks ect. Works pretty good.
But i got a few tickets with it so i dont even use it anymore...
 
do you mind a used one or bidding on ebay? You can snag a escort passport 8500 x50 for under $100 if you keep your eyes open. I got one for my dad for under $70 shipped about 8 months ago.

Keep them out of the sun!!

I bought a used 8500 x50 from someone on CEG, worked perfectly but when it was really hot, it froze up all the time. Eventually it just stopped working all together. Just flashes "SERVICE REQUIRED" now.

I read up online and it seems to be a common problem. I tried to get in the habit of removing it from the window and tucking it away during summer months but that didn't save it.

my dad always keeps it hidden in a dash compartment when not in use since his old radar detector got stolen. thanks for the tip though :)
 
I think im gonna drill out a section of the dash, gut the area, attach the detector to the bottom, install a few motors, and have it pop up when the ignition is turned on. But im kinda lazy....
 
I've had a number of 8500 X50's over the last 5-6 years. I wouldn't trust a used one. I'm convinced that if you leave them on auto sensitivity for long enough, they just become insensitive to everything, espcially if you don't always drive the same route or in the same location. I think that I've had my current one for about 3 years, and I just always keep it in city or highway mode and never use auto.

As far as the keeping it out of the sun goes, I live in Texas... and I've never once had any problem like that.
 
I have a Cobra one and it was about $75 @ Best Buy. I keep it mounted in the upper left corner of the windshield and it seems great. The gate guards never see it either.

Me neither. I've had Escort and Bell models that didnt mind getting hot.

Last time i knew, here in atleast ohio they are illegal or something.

Mom always got in trouble for hers.
 
How does the Beltronic Pro RX65 compare to the 8500 X50? I love my RX65 but want to know if it's still holds a candle. Works like a charm for me still.

For under $100 its not worth buying anything if you go by the test data. I loved my Escort that I bought from someone when they upgraded to a newer model but even back then I didnt bother using it that much.

I do.

But the other day when i was at the ball park about to leave, a cop pulled up beside me and goes "Don't you think you have your system up a little to loud?" the damn thing was only 1/2 the way up, and the amp is already turned down to halfway itself. So i just ignored him and went on with my business. Later that night he pulled me over for it.

Its not for speeding, since when a friend died of speeding i have not went 5mph over the speed limit.
