WOW my heart fell to my feet when I got the call that my son was involved in an accident. First thing he said when I answered the phone was "I mocked up the Tour". I knew what he meant. My reaction was are you all right. He had cuts, bruises, and a very sore arm from the airbag. But thank God he was wearing his seatbelt!!!

So after 10 years of owning my beauty and 270,000+ miles later, my son ran her into the back of a Z71. No fault accident, only liability on my baby.

Hey but she still runs!! We drove her home from the accident two weeks ago. I had to move her yesterday to park my Escort beside her and she cranked right up!!! Yeah, we are a FORD family :) as you can see in the photo.

The only damage was to the windshield, head light, corner panels, grill, and hood. The radiator brackets are bent, but so far it still holds water, no visible damage.

Goodness! Glad he's okay. I wouldnt sweat the headlight though if it looked as bad as the other did. :)

*BOOM!*

That airbag would scare the crap out of me..... glad he is OK

The first time I had an airbag go off and smack me I was more scared of it than I was of the car that tapped us. It had been years since I'd been hit in the face but I assume it felt about the same.

He said when the airbag went off it sounded like a shotgun in an enclosed area! He said his ears were ringing afterwards.

The z71 had no damage

Estimated speed of my son was 35mph. The Z71 was stopped at the time. No fault, just a fluke accident on wet blacktop.

Wakes you up for sure. Happens so fast that you can't even react to it. Might be different in a slower collision. Had a forearn burn and slight whiplash. Whiplash wasn't due to the airbag obviously.

glad ur son's ok. 270k miles? if she's lasted this long and still runs strong, have u thought about fixing it up and seeing how far that gem will take u?:) and if thats a 35m/h hit, u've gotta luv contours. absorbs it all. another great reason, i'm still driving mine:)

That's interesting. Down here, if you hit someone from behind, it's automatically your fault... ESPECIALLY if the other person was stopped. If that were me, I would have gotten a "driving too fast for conditions" ticket and probably a "careless driving" ticket to go with my bruises. :blackeye:

Michigan is the same way, if you rear end anybody, its instantly your fault, its considered failure to control the vehicle, even if you back into someone :D

I love when people ride right up to my rear fender while stopped on a sloped intersection. I just kinda, look in the mirror and smile as I let the foot off the brake and roll a little. ;)

Sorry to see your car wrecked though! Who's granny panties? Oh wait- that's the airbag. Nevermind!

Pretty much the same thing in Texas. The only time I've known it to go the other way was when a friend tapped another car in the rain from behind and beer cans fell out of the other car when the driver got out to yell. Needless to say the other driver got picked up pretty quickly and my friend bought himself a pretty nice truck with the insurance money.

Same in NY and NJ. If you don't leave enough stopping distance between you and the guy in front of you, it's your fault if you rearend him.

We purchased another 1998 Contour LX this week that needs a transmission. We were torn between putting our transmission in the LX or taking the body parts from the LX and putting them on our GL. The LX has just under half the mileage mine does. So we're gonna keep ours for parts and put the trans. in the LX. Bought the LX for $250.00

I personally think the driver of the z71 should have been at fault. He wasn't sitting at the stop sign He was sitting in the middle of the road just around a curve talking to someone who was in the other lane going the opposite direction. My son knows the kid that was driving the truck. Ya believe in Karma???

The owner of the Z71 totaled it this week. Hit head on into a tree. He wasn't hurt......that is wonderful. But the truck won't even crank.

My son told me tonight when he found out the truck was wrecked he laughed at the kid at school after he found out he wasn't hurt.

They are definitely a strong car!!! Mine hit a huge buck a few years back. Only damage to the car was a busted grill. Unfortunately, the buck didn't live.

I always said if I found another Contour with low miles, it would be mine

The one we found this week is identical other than it is an LX. I think  One side emblem says LX the other side says SE....go figure

What a f*cking moron. Y'all are better than me... I say it's too bad that he wasn't hurt. The less he's behind the wheel, the better off the people around him are. Idiots like that are a big part of why insurance rates are so ridiculous.
