So i recently acquired a Max Honed UIM, i pulled it out of the box and relized
"This is a se intake"
So comparing the 2 next to each other the split ports are the exact same size.

stuck my finger in the se UIM then the SVT.. and OH MAN! The SE one is SO smooth, and it feels bigger...

I know the SVT UIM is honed but... My question is how do these compare?

your really not going to notice a diff .on a 2.5l. iirc on the old boards someone dyno'd after a group buy on them..somehting like 5whp:shrug:

Where did you get it from? The outside looks like it's never been coated or did you have it blasted? Are you going to grind all of the flashing off to clean it up and make it smooth on the outside before coating?

its a non svt manifold, thats how they look. it was sent to extrude hone to have the max hone job done to it. it flow more cfm than the svt one's. great for f/i or on a 3l

They also changed the extrude material since the SVT UIM's were done. The result is a much more smooth (and aggressive) hone.

Only because i like you beans, i searched for you.

stock manifold = 155 CFU
single honed (98-98.5 SVT) = 170 CFU
triple (some people) = 188-190 CFU
This new process: 193 CFU, possibly bit more

Like pgt said the power difference was low, around 1-2 hp acutally.

He did a back to back dyno.

Here were his results.

That is the only reason why i never sent in my UIM.

harry, you should remove the double honed numbers for 99-00,it was a long standing ceg myth that was proven wrong, rick miller has already said that no svt manifold was sent through the process twice.

It should probably be changed from "dual honed" to "newer material".. which, supposedly, removed more metal than the prior one.

Done and done
Thanks

Yeah no kidding. I would rather have spend all that money for the UIM and LIM and bought a 3L.

Beans oh beans what are you thinking these days.

If LKQ wouldn't charge my left nut for a 3L i would have one already

$675! For a 40k motor.

You can thank reebs and bagged for the price increase:cool:. 1-2 years ago they were selling for 500. Now they just order them when they find them . Because the guy i spoke to said there are people coming here demanding these motors so they are in high demand:rolleyes:

I was like really, taurus motors are a dime a dozen. He said well these guys arn't using them in the taurus though.

I was like nooooooo way. wow what are they putting them in. I should have said are they putting them in escorts lol

Weak. Well i might just cave in soon :(

Saying you won't notice a difference is not accurate in my experience....

Don't install it the way it came out of the box, get some tools and start opening up the split ports, on my UIM i was very disappointed to get it back with the same size outlets(i measured before it went out). But when i started comparing it side by side it was easy to tell the the port was bigger but had not opened up at the final outlet, creating a big bottleneck.

I took a pic halfway thru to show the difference. The ports are matched not to the gasket , but to the LIM. I made alignment pins and traced the LIM on the UIM.

This, with a 65mm TB, Gutted LIM and a high-flow cat netted me 11hp/9tq, but wirh no secondaries, the car was un-drivable down low, so it's all been pulled for install on my 3.0 race motor. A tune would have EASILY put me over 190 at the wheels.
