But dusty conditions are exactly where you shouldnt use a filter that doesnt filter as well. Something like the AEM or AFE filters where they dont need oil to help filter but are still easily cleanable and filter as good as paper would be better. But to each their own.

it filters just fine. The last vehicle I had a K&N on was my escort. I put about 40,000 miles on that car in under a year and a half, it always ran strong. With a paper filter I would have replaced it probably 3 times or more. A washable dry filter would have probably worked just as well, but who cares. The oiled element catches quite a bit of dust, nearly as much as a paper element, and I guarantee you that I would still be driving that car and have about another 20,000 - 30,000 miles on that car if it hadnt been stolen and driven 8 miles with no radiator in it in 100 degree weather, and I still wouldnt be replacing the filter.
IDC I am happy with K&N filters. Why spend more on another "lifetime filter" if I dont need more?

I just wash with warm water, blow it out with an air hose, then I spray lightly with oil. Takes 15 minutes tops. Letting it dry overnight will make no difference, as oil doesnt evaporate, it just collects dust and appears dry.

It may filter just fine for you but I wont ever use another cotton gauze filter after seeing how much silicon jumps in a used oil analysis when running one. I dont need that extra crap in my oil on a car that I intend on keeping for a while.

how much silicone jumps in a used oil analysis? If your air filter is effecting your engine oil, then you got problems, and those problems have nothing to do with your air filter.

Silicon, not silicone. Silicon numbers mean dirt in the oil and the number jumps up when you switch from paper to cotton gauze. So yes, the problem is with the air filter.

He's right, and that's why you need to change your oil more often if you run a K&N style filter.

typo. oops. Anyways, never had any problems. Yes I have sent my oil in for analysis. I got about 50 spare kits at the shop right now, since we send in all the oils from the tractors, implements, and semis once a year.

Anyways, like I said, I put 20,000 miles or better on my cars yearly. I drive in dust, gravel roads, and on snow or ice. I go between 100 degree temperatures in the summer all the way down to -30 or -40 temperatures in the winter. I take care of my car no more than a person should, but I don't skimp out either. My 95 grand prix was sold with 175,000 miles on it. At least 120,000 miles was made with a K&N filter on it. That Filter was put on back when my parents owned it, and probably 60,000 miles before I bought it. I bought it from them and kept it another 4 years and only sold it a year ago. The transmission was getting kinda worn out but the motor was going as strong as when my parents first got it.

If your car has problems... Dont blame it on the components that you and millions of other people put in your car. Blame it on your poor service work, or whatever mistakes you made.
