when i turn on my heater it smells very strong of coolent.. would this mean the heater core is going bad? i have not noticed any loss of coolent

A leak in the system that's burning off could cause that. If you have a heater core failure, you'll usually have copious amounts of coolant steam in the cabin. It's caustic enough to be unmistakable.

Even a small leak under the hood can migrate fumes into the cab through the A/C/Heater vents. The last time my water pump failed I noticed some odor first. The water pump failed from a shaft seal leak.

the heater core was rusted out some how.. took 5 min to get it out and about an hour or 2 to put back in.. but now theres no smell!!!

w00t, you were right.

Where is the heater core on the contour anyways? I've never heard of someone having to replace it
