Messed around a little in photoshop. I kinda like it

That looks sick!! I really want to paint mine that color. Thanks for the PhotoShop.

if your gonna go with flat black then you need to get the red steelies with the mini moon hubcaps and the chrome ring.......maybe some kickass pin striping....if your gonna do it then do it right

I love the idea, but I have a question. We wax our clear coated pant, and it makes the car look nice and glossy.

How do you take care of this paint without getting it glossy, and defeating the whole purpose of painting it flat black?

They make low gloss clear coat. I asked my friend who works at Allied Body shop here in Lawrence, KS. It seals but doesn't put off much shine.

you guys most of the nice looking flat colors you see nowdays is a single coat paint but is not enamel based and there is no clear coat. it's not just a flat color either. its some new blend they came out with like two years ago. house of kolor invented it. they make it in any color. i saw an STI in an import mag with it. you don't have to wax it, and it looks clean even when it's dirty. but no matter what you do, it's still a flat color, and i think thats just plain ugly.

Yea I don't think I could get used to the flat color. Probably feels like sandpaper when you rub your hand on it/wash it.

It doesn't.

There's two ways to paint a car satin the RIGHT way.

1) Add a flattening agent to the clear coat(house of kolor is popular), the more flattening agent you add to the clear, the flatter the finish (duh).

2) Single stage satin paint.

I've had the paint to do this sitting around since i built my SVT two years ago, and I'm just now having time to get it done. Done right satin paint is just as nice as a gloss two stage paint, because it's no different, there's just an additive in the clear to dull it down. You do not wax or buff satin finishes, you just clean them, very low maintenance and on the right vehicles it looks mean as hell.

what if you already have a black car? could you just get it wet sanded? or get a satin finish put on?

Hmm, i don't think that could done succesfully without havening to re-spray and touch it up with satin or flat black. I think you'd end up taking off too much paint, and it would just look like a sanded, unprimered p-o-s IMO.

suck too, cuz live i've stated before i've wanted my car satin black for as long as i've owned it. but i don't think it can be done without a re-spray. So my dream of a satin/flat black car will not come to ferission, since i couldn't justify a perfectly good black paint job just to spend $ on a prep/paint to make it satin instead of gloss

My tour is almost all flat black. I still have to take the hood and front half of the roof to bare metal and spray it. Keep it in mind that this is a work in progress. Sorry for the bad pick

ill be using a black that we use on those stripes the mustang people get...

all ready have the black.. just need too take it apart too start sanding..

there is a thread over on svtp with satin black cars. everything from ferraris to vettes. id like to do this to my truck, to make it stand out a little more. ill throw on a set of satin black 22s w/ chrome lips and a few chrome accents. then probably have some pinstriping done to it. i think it will look

cant wait to see what your car looks like Pole. i think it will look badass!

Don't they make clear coats with flattening agents already in them? semi gloss clear, satin clear..etc. What kind of black would you use underneath it? Something that isn't single stage, strictly for colorant, and thusly requiring a topcoat? (i.e. don't use gloss black paint with satin clear right?)
