Ok this morning i went out tomy car and my rear doors were frozen shut. does anyone know of a way to prevent this from happening? something i can spray or apply to the weather stripping (whatever it is called) between the car and the door?
it is so bad that it tears it.
please help!
Thanks!
Kristen

Mine ripped horribly last year!!! To save what was left my dad sprayed a tiny bit of WD-40 on it. I thought it would damage the paint, but it helped ALOT!! I need to replace the whole thing though b/c of how bad it was.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks, yeah mine have ripped a lot as well, I should also look into getting some new ones. I will give that a shot!

I had the worst time with that last year.

I was on my way to work, I live 5 minutes from work so I ussually leave right at 8:00 and get there at 8:05 which puts me in the 7 minutes grace period. I decided to leave a bit early (7:55) because it was so cold I didnt want any unforseen issues because Next tardy would be a write-up.

Went to open the drivers door.... frozen SOLID
Passenger door.... Solid
Rear doors..... Solid
Popped the trunk, climed in through the back, climbed up front drove to work 15mph over the speed limit got to work, drivers door STill didnt open, and neither did the rest. ended up climbing OUT of the trunk and running into work at 8:07... Just made it...

Stupid michigan winters!

LOl sounds like you need more muscle mass :)

oh yeah I have been there before i have had to just say F-it becaus emy key doesn't work in my trunk anymore, and just rip my doors open :'( it is so sad i need new weather stripping they are sooo torn!

yes i was serious...
the vaseline keeps the weather stripping soft, and keeps it from freezing shut.
and it hurts her (the car) less because her weather stripping does not get torn.

what type of sick and twisted fugger would have thought differently about my comment?

Hands up!

This happened to me last winter, except the weather also messed with the electric door locks. I was able to get the left rear door open, then i climbed to the drivers seat. Thats when I noticed that the front doors were still locked. As I drove to work I kept trying to unlock them. Finally, as I got off the highway, they unlocked.

It hasnt happened since, and hopefully it doesnt do it again this year.

If you have a electrical outlet nearby, get a hair dryer and blow it at the locks. It should help with the electric locks.

You can detach the connecting parts of the lock from inside the trunk, pull the lock assembly out from the outside of the trunk, work lubricant (I used silicone spray and graphite) to get the tumblers working and remove corrosion, and reassemble. It took me about 30 minutes to get my trunk lock working again.

My sister uses cooking spray like Pam on her weather stripping. She has a Escort and was having freezing problems last year until she started using cooking spray. I gotta do mine.
