Found this today. The Jaws of Life were used to remove the top. The backseat was up against the drivers seat.

If that's all it took to make you say that, you probably should.

countless rollovers and nary a scratch mean nothing... run with a one-time thing instead!

 Its not just this that has made me decide this. My car is a pile. There are at least four things wrong with it right now. Also that does scare me because that shows how these cars stand up to an accident.

Yes I know. This is obviously an extreme situation. But it only takes one dump truck or semi and I could be paralyzed or dead. All because I decided to own and drive a Mercury Mistake.

You can be in anything and it would still only take one of anything to take you out.

Life is a lottery, be lucky.

I can honestly tell you this. If I was in my other car(a 1989 Grand Marquis) and this happened to me. I dont think it would take the jaws to get me out. I wont lie. Contours are built cheap. Just like every other "Economy" sedan out there.

It would be interesting to know if the person that was in that car lived or not. And it would also be interesting to know how fast the vehicle that hit it was going.

try driving a fiero :) although, that does have a 5 star crash testing:D

seriously, that could happen in any car. dont give up on yours just becasue of that picture

Yea it's only 8 YEARS OLD.
Yeah. Your point? The car has under 100k and it has severe clutch chatter. I have never seen a car with that low of miles with these kind of problems.

i know you guys are gonna flame me up and down for this. But working at a Yota dealership has really made me see that american cars really are junk. I rarely rarely ever see a Toyota come in for anything other than regular maintenance. Trust me I know. I also used to work for a Ford dealer.

Not trying to convince you otherwise, my Newtonian fellow, but for everyone's general reference we have a member out here who wrapped his SVT around a tree doing 60+ mph. And now he's a pleasant fellow that shows up at our BBQ's, and has a new SVT!

Hit any car hard enough, and it'll crumple. Our Cherokee looked like a crumpled soda can when it was rearended. The other two accidents I've been in involved two small, "economy" cars (89 Jetta and 96 Escort 2-dr), and I walked away from both (both cars totalled, both times not my fault, if you were wondering).

Oh, and since no one said it....

It'll buff out.

 Try the same thing, but with getting hit by an eighteen wheeler.

CNewton,
I drive a Silverado everyday and at any given point in time there is only 4 inches of air trapped by 2 thin sheets of metal and some glass to keep that 18 wheeler from coming through that door to steal my wallet.

If you want other Contour related accidents then have a look at mine. I walked away from mine and didn't even feel a thing.

I doubt you'll find many safer cars than a Contique - or many with a better safety track record. To my knowledge, not one CEG member has ever been killed or even seriously injured in an accident involving a Contique.

Several years back, my wife and I were T-boned in our Contour by a big old Mercedes going about 40 and we both walked away with nary a scratch.

That was proof enough for me.

I think, notice I said I think, thats a little different situation. Your car was not completely obliterated like the above car. I highly doubt the persont that was driving that car is now normal. If they are even alive anymore.

Hmmm. I dont think thats even one tenth percent of the people that drive contiques.

well, it wasn't so much different, in a way. The bumper of that truck hit the windshield of my car. Think about how close that was.

The drivers area of that Mystique was actually in pretty good condition. The seat was leaned back somewhat and there wasn't that much damage in that area. The backseat is obviously destroyed and should anyone have been there, there'd be no hope for survival. But I believe the driver came through ok.
