Also consider Mukilteo and the south of Whidbey Island. Both are nice places, cheaper than Everett proper.

I'm kind of fond of Arlington and Granite Falls, but I haven't been there for over 20 years.

I think that Darington is toooooo far out. Monroe is filling up with Microsoft employees, so prices are going up. maybe look into Lake Stevens, Arlington, Maybe Snohomish. You could always go farther out but that make a longer drive. Living on Whidbey added the price of the ferry. The are some nice areas West of I-5 in Marysville.
