My brother is looking at a 1998 CSVT for $2800. It has 153,000 miles on it, the a/c doesn't work and the check engine light is on. What do you guys think a fair price is for it?

Also does anyone know who owns the red CSVT that is for sale in wyoming, MI and how much it is?

Need to determine what the CEL is for. It could be minor to something major. And what is the reason for no A/C. That could also be another expensive fix.

Depends on CE light. Get the code scanned and post it up or search on it. Get a quote from a mechanic to see what the cost to have the a/c fixed would be. Don't see why they buyer wouldn't let you take it to a mechanic. "Found" the silver one on Craig's I see. If you know all teh quirks of a Contour it might be a good pick up. Mileage is very high. I'd try 2k.

Yes it's the one on craigs do you know who is selling it. Also we were thinking $2400 or less.
Mileage wise, what is the life expectancy of a SVT?

not sure what u mean by life expectancy, i've seen some SVT's that even had motors changed by dealer before their 50k miles. plus "life expectancy" is also very dependant on how the car was maintained by it's previous owner/owners. reality is, well most of the time, u do get what u pay for.

some people don't care about the motor, since they plan on putting in a 3L anyways. but that car really does have alot miles on the chasis, though.

I bought mine with a CEL (o2 sensor or false CEL), 121K miles, ac that doesn't work, cracked rear bumper but other wise fine SVT for $2K (along with an set of low milage struts and 2 blizzak tires). So I would say $2800 is a little high....try for $2 as well
