Government shutdown

it means, that if they dont resolve this budget issue, everything government related is going to shut down, secretary of state, everything. Basically absolute chaos, that is unless government workers want to work for free

It does kinda suck for my dad as he is the manager for MDOT over here. He is saying that it could happen and the highway department is planning for it right now. So this means that construction is going to take 2 weeks longer as it already is. Hope you guys enjoy the orange barrels. I know I dont!

But the orange barrels are just so much fun to try and avoid. I hope they finished contruction by the I69 split just after the border because that detour sucked and almost hitting the contruction barracade did too.

This is from www.countdowntochaos.org:

...We don’t want to win the race to the bottom.
The states with the lowest taxes tend to have lower incomes than the states with higher taxes – and most of the low tax states have less prosperity, as measured by per capita incomes, than Michigan. You know the low-tax states: South Dakota, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee. They are low-wage states. They have poor education systems, high crime rates, few public parks...

Let's see that again:

South Dakota? High crime? Did a couple of tourists stay at the Mitchell Corn Palace five minutes past closing? Are we calling that vagrancy? Is that crime? How else are they getting this info?

Few public parks? Jewel Cave, Mount Rushmore?

Here's a list of the state parks in only the northeast corner of the state:

The state of the Michigan budget is dire -- no question. But where in dee hell are the people on this website getting their facts? I've gotten more reliable statistics from fortune cookies.

What do they expect... people are leaving in flocks.

More taxes will just convince more people to leave. No income tax in WA FTW.

I was reading this article on another board
http://www.michigan.gov/som/0,1607,7-192--176793--,00.html

Granholm said that while essential services will continue regardless of whether a budget is in place, citizens can expect a variety of services to cease operation, among them: state-licensed casino gaming in Detroit, sale of lottery tickets, distribution of packaged liquor, state parks, and welcome centers. The governor noted that the Secretary of State has already signaled that branch offices around the state will be closed, preventing citizens from renewing driver licenses, vehicle registrations, and processing vehicle titles.

So does that mean you guys won't be able to buy liquor anywhere in MI?
