when i parked my car i heard a loud knocking coming from engine. i believe its a rod but 10 mins later i started it and no knocking. will a rod do that? if not what could it be? if so is there a rebuild kit out there? seems to be the cheapest route. btw 1/2 the time it has great power and other 1/2 it is very sluggish. 99 svt 140k. replaced clutch around march/april (luk clutch,pressure plate/throw out bearing). ty
 
My neighbor had a spun bearing it actually came and went (not a Contour, old 85 Escort with only 60 kmiles). Must have moved, got oil to it, then got stuck..Knocking could be the throwout bearing, see if pushing in the clutch affects the noise.
 
Wow I had that same problem back in march, It scared the **** out of me. It sounded just like a blown rod. My car hasnt done it since.
 
it was doing it during idle while parked between 2 cars so i could hear it pretty loud but it hasn't done it since. i hear a very quiet knock every now and then but seems to go away when i press the clutch pedal. im just hoping it was the clutch being extremely loud. engine seems to be running good besides lack of power 1/2 the time. i thank everyone for the help
