thanks to striker2, it seems my car has a blown head gasket. i made a few calls and some shops want over $1000 to fix and i still have other problems with the car that needs to be fix (cats & plugs)

so now i'm thinking about selling the car and getting a new one

i wanted to know your opinion on getting another contour/mystique or something like it...i only have about $2300 to spend

Definitely a project. Are you prepared to go through chasing stuff down and likely replacing a motor? You might end up buying the car for a low price, then spending the ranch getting it sorted out. You may find that spending a little more for a car that needs less attention may be the more enjoyable route.

I had a Taurus SHO project car that I very much enjoyed. After a lot of money, and 18 months, I had a great car. But the car was worth nowhere near what I'd put into it. That was ok with me -- I did the project for love, not money. You'll have to evaluate your priorities before you move on something that needs a lot of your time and money.

and considering he only has 2300 to play with, I say get your current car sorted out.

The plugs are not a problem and the cats, well they are not a huge deal either. You could likely have both of those "issues" on any other used contique. Though I think your looking for an excuse to buy an SVT! Tale your time. Like elraido said there are deals out there on SVT's, just need to do your research and keep diligent.

I like that SVT you're looking at have you looked at the car in person mabey the knock is not what we're all thinking it may not ba as bad as it sounds. Worth checking out imho espically a black/tan thats what I was looking for but settled on what I bought. Most of the stuff with that car sounds minor or at least not deal breakers for me are you good with working on cars and just don't want to fix yours?

i'll email him and ask and based on what he says, i may go out and look at it

also, what other cars are similar to a contour with a V6?

It seems the head gasket is blown?

Are you positive now it's the head gasket?
I had a car years ago that a shop diagnosed as having a blown head gasket.
They were ready to replace it. I shopped prices on a head gasket by phone.
One shop said he would not assume it was the head gasket. It was just water on top of the spark plugs and a couple of bad plug wires shorting out.

I bought my SVT for only $2K so deals are out there. Good luck!

I think the days of nice CSVTs for really cheap are over. Prices for good cars have been on the rise again lately, while only the basket cases stay cheap.

I agree Rara, I think the used car market is starting to go up due to the gas prices because of high demand in people wanting cars with mileage. I bet I could get more then twice what I paid for my Escort right now but I'm not selling it anytime soon.
Drink, I wouldn't look just at SVTs. SE Sports are good too, its almost equal to a SVT not exact but almost.

You should just stick with your current SVT and work it out, there tough cars and will serve you well. I have had my problems and dealt with them and I wouldn't give up my SVT for anything. And besides even if it cost you $1000 it's still cheaper then buying another car with potentialy bigger problems. Just my .02 I hope you keep the car
