airbag help?

I had my dash out when I took it apart, but as I said earlier I think you can access everything through the glove box area. You would need to remove the AB then I think you can get to the cover studs / nuts, and clips located above and forward of it. I suggest you remove the dash mounting bolts to make installing the new AB easier as it needs to slip over the round brace support, and that will give you the wiggle room needed.

That is strange since it shows when I look at the post. Were you logged in? and if it doesn't show does it give you a link, or something to click on?

Can everyone else see the dash pic?

send me an email at alpha924@hotmail.com and I'll send you the pics I took of inside the dash of one car I took apart.

regards,
AF

This is what i see.

Name: Pass AB mounting.jpg Views: 2 Size: 60.4 KB.

I think Firefox hates me.

can you double click on it? I use firefox too do you see pics in other posts? take a look in the classifieds for example. If not there is a setting in FF that is not correct.

BTW it must have been quite a deal when they went off. One reason I got another mid size ford is the way the AB's and crumple zones worked when some bonehead pulled out in front of my wife, and her Escort was totaled. Of five people and three cars one a BMW (the bonehead on a cell phone) that little Escort took the crash best (head on for her) and the AB's worked she was the least injured of five people. That sold me on the mid size ford.

yeah it was interesting when they went off. Only thing was, i barely even fell into them. i slid at 22mph on ice and the sub frame hit a large rock in front of a neighbors driveway. they only went off because the sensors registered the shock because the rock missed the bumper.

i hit the rock then slid up and over it.

oh and i do see pictures on other posts just not some

you said i would need new sensors. Since it was a front on crash, would i just need the front sensors or the rear ones also?

As far as I know there are no rear sensors that control AB's. They are only for front end crashes. Usually, as I understand it, they go off when the vehicle's front end crumples to a speciffic spot, or receives a perdetermined inpact force sufficient enough to cause movement in the sensor. If you didn't receive enough damage to cause the front end to crumple then the later condition is what caused the sensors to go off. What I don't know is wether or not they reset, as there is an internal part to them that actually moves causing contact, setting off the AB's. With that answer unknown I would be concerned that leaving those in place, could cause the new AB's to go off as soon as power was restored to the circuits.

Just to make things clear, very simply put, this system consists of AB's, AB monitor, and crash sensors. The AB's are plug n play, the monitor just does checks to see everything is ready electronically, and the crash sensors actually trigger the event. (doing something stupid can also trigger the event. ALWAYS USE CAUTION CONCERNING AB's)LOL, disclaimer required for some people.

I suggest you contact Todras, via PM, and order a Ford CD for your year of Tour. It is very reasonable, about $5 (I think), and has everything you need to know about your situation on it. Electrical and mechanical information with lots of pics and proceedures.

my 2 cents,
AF

yeah its 8 from him, which is still good. from what i read earlier there is a second sensor. A "safing sensor" that is second in chain and also must register the shock force to set the air bags off. so i may do they new airbag system and check to see if the light stays on then change the front sensors. also, how much work to your knowledge is involved in changing the front sensors?

Alright i found them. Now im just waiting on reebs, to get all the parts from, still. I have the money and everything.

Can someone post a picture of the post 98 dash board with the passenger airbag door closed. Im trying to bend mine back and its not looking right. Need a reference picture

looks like i will definitely be needing a new one. Thank you

I wasn't around when he did it, I would think using some sort of stationary object to push it against would be ideal, but i'm not for sure, you could ask SVT_22 (my brother) who would of been around, he might be able to answer that better than I.
