Hello

I did a search and found some TBSs, Technical Service Bulletins that effect my 1999 contour 2.0 L automatic transmission car with ABS.

The dealership did such a great job of stalling and appearing indept that I finally left without any of the TSBs I was interested in.

Specifically

1. TBS 7451 and TSB 13468 deal with cam belt shredding

2. TSB 9811330 antilock brake growling

3. TSB 15894 for harsh shifting

I would greatly appreciate if anyone has a copy of these TSB's and would be willing to share

Regards
Andres

Invalid? I got these numbers from a web site after entering my car year and model.

Do you know where I could go to get "correct" numbers??

Found a different site

Found a different site

How about TSB sequence # 610829 shredding cam belts?

Well I have a couple pages of TSB's, most are for the 2.5L engine...

- No start in damp weather
- 2.0l DTC P1380/1381/1383
- Noise - Fluttering heard from heater Plenum area
- Fuel - Venting tank when servicing CNG fuel system
- Trim - Instrument panel warpage repair
- 2.0L ZETEC - MIL - DTCS P0340, P1380, P1381, OR P1383 In Memory

Just to name a few....

Plus about 6 recalls..

Still invalid numbers. Don't know what website you used (probably NHTSA, they tend to use a mix of their own numbers and Ford's), but the format doesn't match Ford's TSB numbering method.

Go to www.alldatadiy.com and look up TSB titles and number. Full text is available by subscription.

Otherwise, you can go to www.motorcraftservice.com and purchase a short-term subscription to gain access to Ford's full TSB database.

I do have a fairly complete library of TSBs. If you post the Ford numbers, I can look them up.

Steve

Maybe Andres came across the TSB here? Although, it's for a 1996 Ford and not 1999.

I also wondered about any recall or replacement of the TSS for that 1-2 hard shift?

I'd like to say that they are not wrong.... Those were provided by Mitchell OnDemand..... Just because they don't match doesn't mean they aren't TSB's... Possibly could just be Mitchell's way of numbering, I never opened up the documents to see if there were more numbers or different TSB's in them....

Well, whatever.

I've given you the info you need in order to get what you want. You can use it or ignore it.

If you ignore it, I can't really be bothered further.

hello, i only found these three bulletins in fords oasis system that were close to your description, we use mitchell on demand also and they are not 100 percent accurate but they are usually pretty close. i know you want to change the tensioner and pulleys when performing the timing belt replacement, hope this helps

Some vehicles equipped with the CD4E transaxle may exhibit harsh and delayed 1-2/2-3 upshifts along with DTCs for gear ratio errors after the Transaxle or Turbine Shaft Speed sensor (TSS) have been replaced. DTCs may include OBD1 codes 628, 642, 645, 646, 647, 648, or OBD II codes P0731, P0732, P0734, P0741, and P1744
ACTION:

If the condition occurred after servicing the Transaxle or TSS, refer to the following TSS Selection Chart and select the correct TSS for the vehicle application. Note that each TSS has the Ford engineering part number on it. Also note that there is a TSS kit that includes an instruction sheet, TSS sensor and correct bolt.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

If the condition occurred after replacing the Transaxle or TSS, use the TSS Selection Chart and determine the correct sensor for the vehicle.
  1. Remove the existing TSS from the CD4E pump body.
  2. Reinstall the original TSS sensor, if available, or install the correct TSS as indicated in the Selection Chart.
  3. Clear all codes and verify repair.
  4. If the condition still exists, follow normal diagnostics as listed in the appropriate model year Workshop Manual.

This TSB article is being published to provide correct service procedure for setting up cam timing belt and tensioner, due to the procedure being inaccurate in the Workshop Manual.
ACTION:

During a timing belt servicing, refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE:TO ACHIEVE PROPER TIMING BELT TENSION, THE CAMSHAFT SPROCKET BOLTS SHOULD BE LOOSENED ENOUGH TO PERMIT THE SPROCKETS TO TURN FREELY ON THE CAMSHAFTS. WITH CAM SPROCKET BOLTS LOOSENED AND CYLINDER #1 AT TOP DEAD CENTER (TDC), CRANKSHAFT MUST BE ROTATED TO TDC IN CLOCKWISE DIRECTION (INSTALL CAMSHAFT ALIGNMENT TOOL IN THE CAMSHAFT SLOTS).
  1. Back out the tensioner bolt four (4) full turns and position the tensioner so the locating tab is at approximately the 4 o'clock position. Line up the hex key slot in the tensioner adjusting washer with the pointer that is located behind the pulley (Figure 1).
  2. Working counterclockwise from the crank sprocket, install the timing belt.
  3. Rotate the tensioner locating tab counterclockwise and insert the locating tab into the slot in the rear timing cover (Figure 2).
  4. Position the hex key slot in the tensioner adjusting washer to the 4 o'clock position (Figure 2).
  5. Tighten the attaching bolt enough to seat the tensioner firmly against the rear timing cover, but still allow the tensioner adjusting washer to be rotated using a 6mm hex key (Figure 2).
  6. Using the hex key, rotate the adjusting washer counterclockwise until the notch in the pointer is centered over the index line on the locating tab. (The pointer will move in a clockwise direction during adjustment) (Figure 3).
  7. While holding the adjusting washer in position, torque the attaching bolt to 25 ±3 N-m (18 ±2 lb-ft) (Figure 4). NOTE:IF THE POINTER DOES NOT REMAIN CENTERED OVER THE INDEX LINE DURING FINAL TIGHTENING, LOOSEN THE BOLT AND REPEAT THE PROCEDURE BEGINNING WITH STEP 4.

The following basically suggests that if you have an original TSS part # F7RP-7M101-AA (AB), then you must replace is with part # F7RZ-7M101-KA

If you have original TSS part # XS7P-7M101-AA, then you must replace it with part # 1S7Z-7M101-KA

As you can see, it can be confusing. Be careful. I have a 1999 Ford Contour SE, 2.0L 3 and an original TSS part # F7RP-7M101-AA. Although, when I told the dealer which car I had (1999 Ford Contour SE, 2.0L 3), they gave me TSS part # 1S7Z-7M101-KA. This part made my 1-2, 3-4 bang shift worst and consistent, and the TSS leaked. When I returned it, the dealer found a catalog error and they gave me the wrong part #.

I am not sure if they are going to correct the issue, although, if you want to replace the TSS, you have to tell them the original part # or you will not get the correct one.
