Rialknight signing off CEG

Maybe. :)
It is a base model that is highly mod'd.

Sorry to see that you want to leave the CEG Lamonte. :(

lamonte, you'll never wake up and suddenly know how to drive stick. when i bought my svt, i had no clue how to drive it. it took me an hour, and i was going pretty good. it is a LOT easier than you think. i learned when i was 16 years old, you're a lot more experienced than me. you should pick it up real fast. plus, if a friend ever wants to take your car out for a joyride, its nice to know they dont even know how to start the car, let alone drive it.

before you go, i gotta know... did you ever fix that friggin license plate?

No, getting a pre-98 contour was a major downgrade, it was a poorly made car that was too hard mod & too costly to fix & i'm happy to be soon be rid of it. I'm still kicking myself for beliving like a moron I could fix/mod-up this lemon up & still be happy.
Perhaps you made a mistake and made a poor decision purchasing that particular 10-12 year old automatic, but that doesn't mean all Contours suck. Data I've seen suggests that they've done well as a group over the years. That the CEG is still so active is a tribute to a car that's been out of production of seven years. All brands have lemons. My 95 Contour has been great and even if it dies tomorrow I'll still have paid about half for it than I would have for an Accord when all is said and done. If I bought a 90's GM, it would probably be dead already.

...but that's what i get for being an total A-hole.
No, you get a Lumina for that. Seriously. Have fun with 80's technology!

And anyone whom considers themselves to be a driving enthusiast is robbing themselves by not at least learning how to drive manual transmission.

Woah, sweet Lumina!
Lots of panties will get wet when you pull into the parking lot and kick on them neons!

:ponder:

Tell me, what kind of panties do Contours make drop? Granny panties?

You're going ot put cash into that? like, gas right?
No different than putting money into a GL/GS/LX, now is it? Hell, we even had a turbo'd ZETEC of all things and no one batted an eye.

good luck with the white lumina take pics when the paint starts to peel off and it looks like a cow. all lumina's do that!
Because the Contour was the epitome of paint quality. Flaky clearcoat and all.

You're going to put money into THAT car. And you cannot drive stick...what about the car culture are you really into?!
Where exactly does an overpriced Blazer fit into "car culture"? They put lipstick on that pig and guess what? You bought it. In automatic form.

Seriously. Have fun with 80's technology!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the CDW27 project first "born" in 1989? With the first model produced in 1993? The Lumina dates back to 1990. My point? They're BOTH old technology.

I understand that this is a the Contour Enthusiasts Group and we all love(d) our cars. He likes his Lumina just as we like our cars. The good majority of car people think the Contour is a turd. We are in the vast minority. While the Lumina may not handle the way a Contour does, at least it has V6 power (I've driven a Zetec ATX...I swear I had to turn the A/C off to go up hill) and you can't argue about the 3100's reliability. They're both discontinued mid-90s cars. It's like arguing between Plymouth and Oldsmobile, don't you think?

Off topic: to the owner of 529STD (awesome license plate, btw ) where did you get that 3.0L badge? Looks very good!

I'm not going to go into technical detail, but the CDW27 platform was very modern at its release and still compares very favorably to many modern sedans outside of an AWD option. The platform and engine have been recognized with enthusiasm throughout the car world. The Contour may not have sold well in the US, but it received many accolades and enthusiastic reviews in the press. The status obsessed media slaves of North America can't get over its allegedly bland styling. I think what makes the Contour ugly to most people are its blue ovals. I think late 90's contours look great compared to its boxy competitors of its time. SVT's in particular are great looking cars.

I believe that the Lumina compares favorably to GM's of the mid-80's. In my mind GM was the last of the major US carmakers to incorporate many industry standard engineering and suspension design techniques that appeared with more powerful computers in the late 80's. I don't think it was ever renowned for doing anything very well and I honestly don't know what kind of excitement a modern car enthusiast can draw from it. They used to be all over the place in Ottawa, but they've all rusted away it seems. Cavaliers excite me more than Luminas. Gah.

It's like arguing between Plymouth and Oldsmobile, don't you think?
No, not at all. My enthusiasm for the Contour isn't an irrational attachment. While I can understand many people may not enjoy driving Contours, the platform inarguably does some things extremely well. It provides an uncommon driving experience that compares well to European and Japanese sports sedans of its period that cost twice as much and are basically twice as expensive to maintain. The Contour is not only inexpensive, it is also very good at being a European sports sedan.

I don't hate the Lumina, but it is completely unremarkable. It is not even known for being particularly reliable as far as I can tell. You're not a car enthusiast if anything with a V6 wets your panties.

I'm annoyed by people who come in here whining about their (former) Contours because they happen to be one of the inevitable group that will have a lemon, perhaps even because of their own driving habits. I see people drive over avoidable pot holes every time I drive; they seem to think their cars are supposed to be invinsible. If you see bad roads ahead, slow down, gah. But anyway, people get stuck buying their cars eventually. Sucks to be them. But it's the risk you take saving money on a used car. People need to grow bigger balls and accept when it's them whom made the mistake, not the previously abused car.

If you're gonna trash the Contour in your goodbye message to the CEG, you better be driving something more exciting than a Lumina.
