Call the dealer service manager & let them know your problem. The Dealer MIGHT be able to program your keys to match your new PCM and those would be the only parts to bring in, but more likely, for security reasons they may want the car on site to make sure the car & driver match up. Ask them what they need & bring title and/or registration just in case if they do require it.

Ok im out of time and wife needs a car

Ok im out of time and wife needs a car

hey guys i figured I give you a chance first she has to go and i dont have the time anymore but someone make me an offer (cost of the engine atleast) and in the time it takes to get her sold im going to keep working on her.

Well I guess it's your choice to quit working on it but did you ever call the dealer? If this is a PATS issue then your car will be up and running the second you get your keys programmed. But in the end it's your choice.

This is a pats issue.
Tow your Car to a performance shop and ask them to Tune it out... They CAN do that you know...
If you have any questions shoot me a pm.

If you have them tune it out, you never need the pats II stuff again. (PITA!!)

which thing? putting more money into towing it and having it tuned or taking the key and the computer to ford?

calling them up and seeing if all you need is the computer and the keys. if someone you know has a truck, then rent a car dolly and tow it that way if you need to.

Hey I'm In colorado springs, and have been and custom car audio installer for about 8 years, I know a lot of ways to work around PATS (necessary for installing remote starters/alarms etc.). shoot me a pm if interested in my help.

sounds exactly like the trouble i was having. itsturned out to be the pats system . they replaced the transponder and reprogramed the key and it started right up

That was my first thought when he said flashing at the contour emblem. Get the PATS fixed and then, if after doing that you don't get a start, do what you gotta do...

Ok so what is the latest??
ok so the update is after checking the battery and the fueses and what not I still have not gotten around to doing the pats key thing yet and no i have not taken it to ford yet. the bottom line is now im moving back to denver in a week so i need something to pull through either I sell this thing scap it to a yard somewhere or one of these key things works im only trying the key and the pats bypass so if you guys have an opinion on how to do that please feel free.

Where do you live, cause I'd rather you throw it my way instead of a junk yard if your just going to junk it.... I'm assumeing this is a CSVT with a 3L swap then....

As I told you in November via an E-mail, it is the PATS, and you need to get it into a dealership. Many others have said the same thing. Don't sell the car for $900 because you won't take it into a dealership..

But that's my $.02.

This info may be handy for some people mainly the 96- early '98 guys.
Save some cash and headache.

for Ford keys (1996 -early 1998 Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)
If you want to initiate a new master key....

1. Insert new key into ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen minutes.

2. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder OFF and then back to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.

3. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back ON (RUN) position. The dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.

4. After the security light stops flashing the third time, the new key has been programmed into the vehicles computer and will operate the car. It has replaced ALL the previous electronic key codes and is the ONLY key programmed into the vehicles computer.

If you want to add a key....

1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.

3. Remove the existing key and, within 15 seconds, insert the new key and turn it to ON (RUN).

4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming the key into the vehicle.

5. Don't attempt to start the vehicle with any key for at least 1 minute.

for Ford keys (Later 1998-newer Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)
If you want to initiate a new master key....

1. This requires that the vehicle be connected to special dealer equipment. There are two ten minute delays involved while this device erases all existing key programming and sets up the vehicle computer to accept new key codes. Two new keys should be ready because the system requires a minimum of two keys in the program. After the first two keys are programmed, additional keys can be entered individually by following the instructions for adding duplicate keys (below).

If you want to add a key....

**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**

1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.

3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.

4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it in the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.

5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.

6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5

About programming PATS keys, I've heard rumors about some late 98+ contiques having a 2 pin harness behind the glove box that can simply be shorted out with a paperclip (Very doubtful if you ask me, but info none the less), followed by a process similar to the '96-early '98 method, neither of my contours have had this tho... and i've never seen it (i was never really LOOKING for it either) in any of my experience...

BTW DON'T go shorting out random wires people, always be absolutely sure of what you are working with before hand. you have been warned!
