im tryin to see if my sunroof is a typical "melted gear" problem.. i don't see any melted gears. but i got some questions. What is that goopy stuff circled in red?? and there seems to be a spot on the gear that is smooth, circled in blue, is that normal?

when I try to put the sunroof back, it will catch for like 2 seconds, and then BUUUZZZZZZZZZZZ ... some of you problably know what im talking about.

anyone know whats goin on? thanks!

if the center is smoothed over, then yes; you are experiencing the "typical" stripped gear problem.

I agree it appears to be the usual stripped gear. Look closely at the gear and see where the ridges have been worn down or removed. That is where your sunroof stops moving.

The goop is a lubricant for the gears. I recommend you do not totally remove it and use some of it to coat the new gear.
