what does the recomended oil level look like on the Dipstick?

I hear everywhere that you should fill .5 quarts over the max line....i did this and its like almost 1/2 inch over the max line....which looks really bad....is this fine or should i remove some oil?

It's ".5 quarts over the recommended amount", not "over the max line". The recommended amount in the user manual is 5.5, so this brings it to 6 total.

No, recommended is 5.8, round up to six, and add a half quart so its at 6.5

You're right I was wrong with the numbers (just checked my manual: is 5.3q without filter, 5.8q with) but I've always thought 6 was the recommended amount. ref FAQ

thats whats been rec. as well as 6.5. Of course if you have an oil filter reloc, the number approaches 7 qts...

6-6.5 qts is within the safe limits of operation, while both giving added protection to our commonly associated problems with oil level.

As stated above; Add an oil filter relocation and you bump that number up to ~7qts.
