CEL came on. The voltage swing test read codes 336 and 337. My Haynes manual says "EGR Problem", "Exhaust gas pressure to high" or something like that; it also says "Take it to a shop for a more thorough diagnosis."

Great manual. <sarc>

Any idea on the most common part(s) at fault when both of these codes are received? The CEL isn't on all the time, but it usually lights when I'm at idle too long and stays on until I shut the car off.

Jason try taking off your EGR valve and cleaning it I did it and it worked! No more CEL! Good luck.

Hate to say it but the 336 and 337 code is the crankshaft position sensor
not EGR!

336 - CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR A CIRCUIT LOW
337 - CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR A CIRCUIT HIGH

No, Haynes is not wrong in this case. You are wrong.

There are two OBD systems in place. OBDI 1995 models. OBDII 1996 and newer models. What you have posted is for OBDII 1996 and newer.

Jason has a 1995 (OBDI)
