I was just curious if anyone is running these this year. I plan on catching the last one of the season in Bremerton (Seattle). If you guys have competed in these events how did you do? Is the Contour competitive (particularly in GS)? A couple of the Nationaly competitive 2.5RS's are in my region so I should be able to figure out how competitive the car and me are. I'm going to a fairly large event this weekend up in Seattle so hopefully I'll figure out how much time I need to make up.

Also is anyone planning on going to Nationals this year? I plan to have my car ready next year for Nationals depending on how the Tour Events go.

Although not in a contour, I'm taking the cougar to Rome, NY... to give myself a whooping, there will be celica GT's, CRX's, and a few other cars willing to hand it to me...My ultimate goal is to have fun and have a great weekend.. other than that I can hope not to be in last place [Smile]

TheMark,
Look me up in Peru, IN, I will be there in the Miata in SM2. Enter early because there will probably be an entry cap of around 350, and everyone likes to attend this event. They had a waiting list last year.

Respectfully,
Andy Hohl

It's good to see some of you guys doing this. Next year I plan on going to 3 of the National Tour events: Atwater CA, Bremerton WA, and San Diego CA (well at least 2, SD is ???? 1100 miles). Maybe if a couple of you head to Topeka next year I may see you there.

The Mark and SVTSTS already attended the Evolution Driving School at St. Louis and in the next day's autocross, with lots of serious autorcrossers on hand, The Mark finished 19th in the PAX out of 142 cars. SVTSTS was 37th in his lightly modded Miata in Sreet Modified.

Being 4 seconds off Graingers Type R pace ain't bad Mark and only two seconds behind National driver Wise in your class. I've been know to be 4 seconds off the pace of strong drivers in my own class, which is why I never went to Nationals. What is the point. Still it is fun to bench race.

I felt really good about how I did in that event. I don't know if this was relayed, but myself and JerryA both corded tires during the Evolution course. He corded three of his four old Bridgies, and I roasted one of my Kuhmos. Rather than the both of us running street tires the next day, I suggested that we throw the mix-n-match R compounds on one car and run that way. We put them on his car, so I was a little off my optimal time, there. Our two car are remarkably similar (his being the prettier of the two [Smile] ), so we are probably talking about no more than a tenth or so. My gratitude goes out to JerryA for allowing me the drive on Sunday.

As to the National Tour (and Nationals). Part of what draws me to this sport is all the fantastic people it attracts. If you ever have a question, just ask about anyone, and they'll tell you, honestly and openly. The national guys that instructed me were very approachable, and completely down to earth. Almost every single person I sat ans spoke with at the Evolution class was interesting. I had an instructor extend an open invite to me for the upcoming Tour and Nationals, and I am going to take him up on it. Regardless of how I finish, it will be a blast to go and compete and hang out (even if I finish last). I will be able to see how I stack up against top drivers, and hell, maybe even trophy [Wink] I put my application in for the Tour a month or so ago, so I hope I'm in [Smile] Oh, and I love to bench race, too [Big Grin]

I saw Jerry A's name, and that he finished 6th, but did not know you shared the same car!

I'm starting to think twice about my contention that the Tour has top ten potential in G Stock in the right hands. There maybe some superdriver out there like this Martens guy who is the only one who can make a 99 Camaro RS V6 go fast in G stock. But my best guestimate from looking at multiple event times, early in the season is that the Celica GT is the car to win with in G Stock now.

Sure the Carpenter CRX, that you will no doubt see at Peru, and several great Neon drivers (Danny Shields. S.E. Division) have a shot. But in the Southeast Division alone, I can't even hope to finish in much more than the top ten. Ken Rupp, G.H. Sharp, and Rick Cone in new Celicas all kick ass, and even in Alabama a couple of great drivers in Alabama region, Clay McCool and another guy drive newer Neon ACRs quite well. Look for a very strong showing from the Southeast region in G Stock at this year's Nationals!

Gotta go, later.

Those plans to go to Peru are now set, leaving the 4th and spending the weekend in Peru, if your thinking about going there are only about 70 spots left..

I had been wait listed.. but now I'm in.
Do you live locally or will you be staying at
a local hotel?

Actually, I hadn't thought that far ahead. I will probably need to get a hotel, but haven't had the presence of mind to go and try and get a room. Considering that there are soo many drivers coming to this event from out of state, I might be up the proverbial creek at this point. If I end up getting one booked, you are welcome to stay with if you'd like. I do snore, though [Wink] I am driving in from Grand Rapids on the 4th. I was wait listed for the test and tune on the 4th, but I made it in. I needed the T&T to scrub in my new Kuhmos, so I am pretty psyched. See you there!

Well I've booked a room(2 queen beds) already actually about a month ago at the Knights Inn, in Peru..Not knowing the area I can only hope its a decent place.. Although I'm not real picky, a clean bed, shower. and no creepy crawlers, is all I need. Right now I have a roommate who is still on the wait list #29... I have to see what he's doing, but if he is not going to make it, you are welcome to share the room with me. Its in the neighbor hood of 50-60/night for the room(before splitting)
