Okay... so.. there I was, washing my SVT, babying her, like I always am, and behind me pulls this HUGE (20' rims) vehicle. I turn to see what it is, and guess what I read..
"Eddie Bauer Edition"
"Expedition"
"SVT"
I don't know about you guys... but... I KNOW that there is NO SUCH THING as an Expedition SVT.. ESPECIALLY an EDDIE BAUER EDITION one. Called SVT team, they said they had a prototype of one, called the "Thunder", but was never sold (or made).
. I confronted the guy.. "ahem... excuse me... I don't mean to bother you or anything.. .but... I own an SVT.. I mean a real one... and I was wondering where you got those badges?" The guy starts telling me this fabricated story of how he knew the owner of a Fatory, and the owner made him a one of a kind car, etc, etc... whatever...

To each his own, on most things... but he needs to do MORE research, and LESS lying... (putting a Saleen badge on a Mustang works... but an SVT on an expedition?????? C'MON!!!)

Sorry, done laughing. That is funny, I am glad I didn't see it. Trying to make a truck (or car) something it IS NOT means you have some self esteem problems. Glad you laid into him.

You should of asked to see what he had under the hood to see what kind of crap he threw on the engine to "try" and make it look authentic [Smile]

OH.. TRUST ME.. I looked under the hood... I was "really" interested in seeing how "cool" his truck was...

He galdly showed me.. get this... "SVT" in silver sticky backed letters (from PepBoys, etc) stuck to the engine... LOL.. spraypainted RED, (complete with red run-off down the cams, and red speckled residue on the hoses..

LOLOL.. I asked what was so special about the SVT line of engine (looking for "extrude honed", etc, etc..) get this.. "oh.. its got a really big engine that most cars don't" (now THAT was technical... lol.) I am really GLAD that I don't know this "guy" from the factory... he may have duped me into buying the pinto-mobile, too..

The one good thing about this is it indicates people actually attach some value to the SVT name.

An SVT Taurus... hmm.. maybe someone will mistake SVT for SHO? It just a little irritating to those of us (me) that really admire this line of vehicle ...

Yea, and if he ever tries to sell this "SVT" to someone else, they'll have an action for misrepresentation. What a bunch of b.s. The guy has major self esteem issues!

Sad, but true:

There's a last-gen 3.8 Litre V6 Mustang here at work. Silver, with huge, fancy black stripes adorning its flanks. GT wheels. F-body-ized aft-axle transverse-mounted Pep-Boys muffler, sprouting two pipes which wrap around to the center and exhale Boxster-style. SVT badge on passenger side of bootlid, Cobra emblem on driver's side of bootlid.

The best part? "V6 HO" badges on the fender, just behind the front wheels...right off our favorite little pushrod Pontiac competitor's GT model.

As much thrill as it would grant me to capture such imagery and share it with the group, I dare not jeopardize my EOS Rebel 2000's well-being 1) for fear of such hideosity actually destroying the lens, or 2) the car's troglodyte owner becoming violent over copyright infringement of his art.

All he's missing is the Ram Air kit.

This thread made me remember something. In college my friend had a Toyota Tercel. I am not ripping the Tercel, but he put "GT Coupe" badging on it. I laughed my a$$ off. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Whenever we rode in his car we would all say "GT Coupe" when we got it. Pi$$ed him off!!! [Eek!]

Ahh misbadging at it's best (or worst mind you)

Speaking of SHO's

I actually saw a early 90's Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with SHO badging. Large ones on the front quarters and another smaller one on the rear decklid.

When I asked the kid about it he responded it was a special edition with the high output engine and he looked everywhere for one. (Where did he make this crap up?)

Needless to say I could not hold my laughter in. He wouldn't say what he paid for it at that point, but I could tell it was a hell of a lot more than he should have.

BTW - it was a normal 2.3L 4-cylinder with an ATX (not even the the HO Quad 4)

Poor schlep... [Roll Eyes]

Why do people think misbadging is so cool when it only makes them look like complete morons???

Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS, Zetec engine, ATX.  No mods. (Well, OK, one mod.  Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios.  I liked the Tempo's radio better.  That counts as a mod, doesn't it?  I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare.  I hate those stupid “compact” spares that come with modern cars.  Does this count as a mod?  If so, I guess I have two mods.  Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)
