I just picked up a 98 Zetec.
It only had a speedo in the instrument cluster, and I wanted a tach.
So, off to the junkyard I went.
I found one i decent shape.

After I swapped it out, the tach works great !!!
But my fuel and temp gauges don't like to move at all.
The speedo / odometer is off by about a factor of 2.8 (1 real mile = 2.8 on the odometer and doing about 50mph has my speedo pegged past 130 mph.
Also, the speedo doesn't move smoothly, instead it "jumps" in 5 mph increments.

Any help anybody could offer would be great.

get a different cluster that one appears to be f-ed up. the coolant and fuel gauges should not have been effected. also the when you do get a good cluster take your original speedo out, pull off the needle, take off the face, remove the face from the one that came with tach and install it on yours. put the needle on but dont put the plastic lens back on yet. grab either a gps unit or pen, paper, and a stopwatch. go for a drive and set the cruise control at what you think is about 45mph (or whatever the speed limit is). time 1, 2, and 3 mile breaks. do some calculating to figure out what you were actually traveling. then adjust the speedo needle as necissary. GPS is much simplier as you can set the cruz and watch the gps
and then adjust the needle to match the GPS.
