Grade 8 or 9 bolt. Call it done.

grade 8 is a us thread grade, i've never heard of grade 9, and the bolts are metric, so neither of those applies anyway. metric hardest grade is a 12.9, and it will be stamped on the head. us threads wont have the grade stamped on them, you will need to decode the marks on them

Ahhh this is true. US size fail. :nonono: Grade 9 exists, but I'm not sure what the difference is from grade 8. We spotted them while searching for grade 8 bolts to construct a steel structure...hmm...

I just replaced my LH trans mount bolt. Stock was a M12 X 1.75 X 60mm I think, grade 8.8, I replaced it with a 10.9. I'm not sure why mine broke either since like yourself I don't beat on the car.

Just a thought or two. Dead roll restrictors could let the whole thing rotate enough to break bolt faster. Roll restrictor mainly there to stop roll, but on Contour they do provide some support as well. If sagging, loss of support will apply more weight and twist directly to next loaded spot, the bolt.

Funny thing is that I was preparing to fix my rear RR because it was sagging a little and I figured that was the cause of my transmission hanging so low. Turns out it was fine and once I fixed the trans mount the rear RR returned to a neutral position.
