I know that this question has been ask, but the box I have has the Sub's facing each other so there no front firing just the ports. I have the ports facing my backseats now and the sound is tight and hard (the way I have always like from my bass) and the vibrations is minimal at best on the trunk lid. any thoughts???

If your subs are facing each other there are sometimes cancellation issues.. The placement that gives the most low frequencey responce is usually ports/subs back, loudest to ear is usually subs back ports side. I personally preferr ports/subs front facing, for the lack of trunk rattle. And it sounds great.

i take it you have a prefab bandpass box.
face your ports toward the trunklid, it will then reflect back and into the cabin rather than reflecting off the backseat and into the trunk

I'm not having a problem with the sound or vibration, just looking on opinions on this type of setup. Most on here have front firing sub's and mine face each other inside the box. I read many different opinions on here about placement, but for front firing. Thanks anyway:cool:

I was under the impression you had two seperate ported boxes.. not a bandpass. If its a prefab bandpass its gonna sound like crap no matter what placement you use ... my opinion.

It really is nice that people give their opinions, but the only correct answer is which way sounds best to you, with your particular equipment. If you have the capability to spin/rotate your enclosure, then do so and try several different configurations. Pick the one that sounds best to you and stay with it. Feel free to share what you find in case someone else has the same equipment/box/install/musical taste as you and all will be good.

If you don't have the ability to spin/rotate your enclosure, what does it matter if another configuration may sound better? You can't change yours anyway.....

Never been a big fan of bandpass. In my experiences, they have really poor low frequency and a ton of "port" noise. I'd try and go for a prefabbed ported enclosure. Guaranteed it will sound 100 times better.

Nice to see you chime in SoundQ, haven't seen you on the board in a while. For my setup I have a Panasonic HU with 2 alpine amps, one for the 3 ways in the doors and one for the subs. The sound that I get is great IMHO, The bass is tight with punch, I have little trunk rattle until I crank it near the top. I'm old school and like my bass tight and hard hitting, unlike most of the people out there today that feel the longing the bass rumbles the better:shrug:. The reason for the question is if I go with a custom trunk design would I want to keep this type or switch to the front firing.

to give a better ideal of my box I try to explain it.

2 12" sub's enclosed facing each other, Plex glass showing sub's, 4 ports appx 3" diameter The box has two connection if you wanted to run separate amps for each sub.

alright your box is definitely a prefabbed bandpass box. my advice would be to keep the box since you like the current sound and incorporate it into your custom trunk.

Either way, an improvement would be dynamat/fatmat/edead which ever you like, and line the inside of your trunk with it... keep that bass in the car
