My 98 contour has a f*cked up exhaust, some jack-a$$ cut the flange off the y-pipe, and the front flange on the cat. I want to put in a high flow converter and have dual tips at the back. What's in the middle is the question. I think i'll have to put the muffler in place of the resonator and then have a y-pipe where the muffler is now. has anybody out there done a dual setup on their car? if so some help would be great.
You have many options...
Yes, people do have true-dual exhausts on their cars. Only a handful though. It really isn't necessary and doesn't help you out any more than a wider cat-back system will on a mildly built 2.5. I suggest you stick with cat-back exhaust.
Now there are a few kinds available that come in kits. There is a bassani exhaust system (
www.ebay.com) borla exhaust system (
www.ebay.com) and a Trubendz exhaust system (
www.trubendz.com).
With the first two, they are single options, As for Trubendz, they have many combo's to choose from. Aluminized stell (cheaper) or stainless steel (lasts longer). They also have the option of resonated kits (quieter) vs non-resonated (louder) kits. Then after you choose your first 2 options, you can decide on what muffer you want with your kit. Magnaflow, borla, or Flowmaster. (I personnaly think the magnaflow sounds best, but a lot of people also like the borla sound, most avoid the flowmaster). I personally have the trubendz cat back with magnaflow resonator and running resonaters.
Now that your cat-back set-up is done, lets move on to your y-pipe area. There are many differnt y-pipe set-ups available. The cheapest is to optimize your current y-pipe. I think your post said yours is flawed so we'll move on. There is a bat y-pipe available (
www.batinc.com I think thats it) there is another one available from trubendz (
www.trubendz.com) that has options like, cat or catless, also has a neat option where you can remove the cat and replace it with straight pipe when you feel the need. There is the weapon-R y-pipe available, but good luck finding one as they are no longer produced. And there is also a y-pipe available from MSDS (
www.msdsinc.com)
I personnaly have the trubendz Y with Hi-Flow cat.
Now for a big power gain, HEADERS! Waepon-r has headers for our car but like i said before, good luck finding them as they are no longer produced, but do show up from time t time on ebay. MSDS offers headers for our car and they are the best quality that you will find. There are many options for them like if you want them coated or uncoated, including hardware and gaskets or not, etc. I am currently running theese and they are awesome.
My set up is MSDS headers, trubendz y pipe w/ hi-flow cat into trubendz magnaflow resonated catback.
I was running without resonators for awhile before I got the headers and y and my exhaust sounded great. After the headers and y though, it becames raspy and annoyingly loud above 3k.
Hope this helps.
