Default IMRC problems??

Ok so i have a 00 Duratec MTX. And i don't know when this started but when I'm at WOT at about 6500 RPM my tour just falls on its face. it did not do this before i don't know when?...... (i don't do WOT often) It seems like it wants to go but gets there and then poof it feels like i hit the brakes then stay at that given speed. I know there's not much more RPM to go any way but what could this be caused by? i can feel my secondaries kick in some times at 3.1k and times as late as 3.6k. So is my IMRC just being stupid or do i need to start looking for another magic box???
I searched for awhile but couldn't find any one with the same kind of problem.
Thanks.

How fast are you going at this point? There is a speed limiter on these cars set to about 112 mph (there is none on the SVT). Once you reach the limit, the car does almost exaclty what you described (I don't know the specifics on how this works, but you can feel the car trying to slow down even though you are at WOT).

If you were hitting the speed limiter and you experienced this, you have nothing to worry about, the car doing what it was supposed to do. If you weren't going that fast then there could be more to this.

There is also an engine rev limiter that kicks in at 6750 RPM that you might be experiencing. The engine revs so quickly that the tach may not have caught up so you are reading a slightly lower speed when it happens. It has always been there although you may not have experienced it earlier in your ownership.

The rev limiter can be raised with some of the tuning devices, but you won't gain much of anything unless you have an SVT with the hotter cams.

Around 30. Was going from first into second. And i must have had my limiter removed cause i have defiantly had it past 112 more than once.

I got it. It was the limiter i guess when i would look after it happened i never got to see the tach hit the limiter.
Thanks for helping me discover my limiter.

Chances are the speed limiter has not been removed. You would be suprised how poor the factory gauges are.

What did 150 feel like in a Contour?? Never had the chance to speed test my SVT. My BMW was tested constantly, but I was young and had a better radar detector LOL.

It was rather nice actually i was not scared at all to take it up further but i don't have a 6speed. I don't have radar detector i just went to highway 364 and put the plastic pedal to carpet and went. Mine was all over the road cause i needed outer tie rod ends so i was left then right etc. It was really loud though my contour has so damn much road noise i can't believe it.
If you have any idea's why mines so loud i would love to hear it.
