Default P0190 - fuel rail pressure sensor circuit malfunction?

Recently, my car (2000 SVT) died and wouldn't start. I replaced the fuel pump with the Focus SVT part (for the second time) and it started. However, it runs very rough and frequently stalls. It generates the P0190 code within a couple of minutes of idling. I searched and didn't see any mention of this code on the forum. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be related to the MAF sensor?

It's just odd that the car was running fine before it died and that replacing the pump allowed it to immediately start again, however with the mentioned problems. Perhaps I received a bad fuel pump?

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I also changed the fuel filter while changing the pump.

I now have a pending code P0193 - Fuel rail pressure sensor circuit high input. I checked the fuel rail pressure today and it is only reading 10 psi at idle. This is surely too low. Any ideas?

I replaced the sensor on my Cougar. It is bolted directly onto the fuel rail, and the dealership wanted around $70 for it, I think (it's been a while). It has an electrical AND a vacuum connection on it. Make sure both of those are sound.

I would say check the fuel pressure regulator but 2000 has the returnless system, not sure what kind of regulation system they use but that might give you another area to check out. If there is one there usually vaccum accuated and if it is pull of the line then check the frp again.

The "smart" fuel pump itself acts as the fuel pressure regulator. The Injector sensor discussed in this thread tells the pump what to do.

Well, it turns out that the new focus SVT fuel pump I installed was bad, explaining why I was only getting 10PSI fuel pressure at idle. I was suspicious of it, so I broke down and ordered a whole new Contour SVT pump assembly. On a side note, the fuel pump assembly that I received is significantly different than the original design. After installing it, the car started right up and idled fine. I took it for a drive and all is well. I checked for pending codes after the drive and there were none.

YES! The 2.5 returnless fuel pumps were drastically re-designed a little over a year ago, due to CONSTANT FAILURE in the Cougars. The new model should last you the life of the car.

Time to bring up an old thread!

I just installed the FSVT pump in my car today and took it for the test run and no codes. The symptoms I replaced the pump for are still there too.

Went to go out tonight and fired it up to let her warm up and Check Engine light came on. Just scanned it and got the P0190 FRPSAC.

The OP went and got a new Contour Sending unit to solve his problem, is this the only fix? Will putting a new sensor on it fix my problem? Does anybody have a pic of where this thing is so I can check it? Maybe I jarred it when using Trapps method for releasig fuel pressure.

I swear, one problem ALWAYS leads to another with this damn car. I am ready to take advantage of Ford's 0% and rebates on new F150s and be done with this car.

Please help, this is the only thread that came up on search for the P0190
